A Texas college student has died after accidentally falling from a balcony in Louisiana, according to police.
Andrew Thomas Henges, 19, of Beaumont, was attending an event when he fell to his death, according to CBS affiliate KBTX-TV.
The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) tells PEOPLE the victim was leaning over the railing of a balcony on Loyola Avenue early Saturday morning "when he accidentally fell to [the] ground."
The young man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the NOPD.
Texas A&M's Delta Tau Delta fraternity paid tribute to Henges on social media, describing him as "humble, selfless, loving, strong, and proud."
"This fraternity is terribly saddened by the death of our brother, Andrew," they wrote, "but we are forever thankful for the wonderful memories that he left for us all."
Tuesday was the last day of classes at Texas A&M, which did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment, according to the school's Facebook page.

I get accidents happen but I assume it was drinking related for your friend? Maybe we need to figure out something to prevent this I dont know.

Nope. Completely sober. Nola has a lot of houses where the balcony is pretty high up from the high 1st floor ceilings and they have really low railings. Someone was throwing keys up to him after locking up on the way down and he reached over to catch them and went head first.
Bourbon street doesn't still have the super low railings but it's still a problem with all the drunks.

600 block of Loyola is a strange place to fall. It’s not like he was on a FQ balcony. He must have fell off the Dave & Buster’s parking garage. Or possibly inside the Hyatt.

I visited NOLA a few months ago and I was surprised to learn at how often stuff like this happens.
I heard a story from a dude that said he was walking in the french quarter one night and found a dead dude just laying on the sidewalk with his guts hanging out. Apparently he fell from a balcony but his belly was ripped open because as he was falling, he caught one of the sharp edges of the Balcony pool. Isn't this why they lube up the pools during Mardi Gras, so drunk people don't suffer this fate?

Dude, we assume drinking is involved. They were in New Orleans. But that doesn't lessen the tragedy for that kid, his family and friends. And here's a news flash for ya, college aged kids drink and every college (except weird colleges like maybe BYU or some evangelical college).

What balcony was this? In that block is the Hyatt Regency, Hyatt House, & Dave & Busters.

I wonder which building it was? Of the several high rise buildings on Loyola, I can only think of a few that have outdoor balconies with railings. The one that instantly comes to mind is the Holiday Inn across from Duncan Plaza.
ETA: I see that others have said that this occurred in the 600 block of Loyola. As others have suggested, the 600 block is an odd place for a fall like this to happen.

It always surprises me how out of state student organizations have events in New Orleans like its some extra special thing. You can get your drink on anywhere, tons of places have better scenery and you won't get shot.
RIP to the young man, peace to his family and friends.

Anywhere is better than College Station and they probably didn't want to go to Austin.

“sharp edges of a Balcony pool.”

I live in NOLA and rarely hear of this occurring. Also trying to think of poles with sharp edges in the FQ and coming up empty.
They lube the balcony poles up so no one climbs them, not to help falling drunk people from being eviscerated on the way down.
Although I can bet there are some pools lubed up too.

Didn’t someone die recently by falling out of the Plaza Tower?
I assume this was not him because the only people who should have been in there were vagrants and homeless people.
