Dr said I could possibly test positive for up to 40 days.
My Infection Control medical director (an Infectious Disease Physician) says you can actually test positive sometimes up to 6 weeks. Shedding dead virus and not infectious. This is for the PCR tests (nasal swab).
That’s why we don’t routinely retest. We go by CDC recommendations when you don’t retest.....which is isolate for 10 days after positive test and also the past 72 hours free from symptoms.
ETA: the PCR test just tests for presence of virus...it cannot differentiate between live or dead virus. And it’s very sensitive...so will pick up the smallest amount of virus(live or dead) and result positive

Thanks for that info.
Unfortunately, my employer requires a negative test regardless of symptoms or not.
My doctor has cleared me to return to work but I still have to go by our company protocol.
I feel great, I've been doing yardwork and catching up on honey-dos around the house.

My doctor issued a return to work note. He said multiple studies demonstrate that certain individuals shed dead virus for a pretty lengthy period of time. We went through the timeline of all symptoms and his note cited CDC guidelines. Work accepted it in lieu of a negative test.

They better be paying you if they are going to require a negative PCR test. That isn't how PCR tests are designed to be used. You won't be contagious a long time before you get a negative test.

You'd count as two separate cases in my state.

6 weeks?! And I thought 40 days was bad.

10 days from the initial positive test you no longer need isolation
The recommendation is that you can test again 10 days after the initial positive test but they still want you to quarantine for 14 days

I had to have emergency Gall bladder surgery about a month ago. Came home for a few days and had to go back because I ended up with a bad case of pancreatitis. Over the span of a week or so, I took 6 covid tests. I went 5-1.
Zero symptoms. No blood markers. Nada.

If there’s 1000 others like you, then the number of positives is overstated. Which, the whole thing is overblown if you ask me

Get out of the house dude.
People are walking around everywhere unknowingly carrying this virus.

Fyi. Virus is overrated. Ill take covid every year over 1 flu case every 20 years.
