A Tesla driver who claims the company broke a promise to provide free charging of its electric vehicles for life is suing the automaker, saying Tesla charges a fee to customers who leave their car at the charging station “too long,”
quote:

The complaint says that to convince early customers to buy its EVs, Tesla promised them free Supercharging for life. However, to deal with congestion at the Supercharging stations, Tesla imposed a fee on customers who didn’t return to their vehicles almost immediately after they had been charged.
So, this guy plugs in, leaves it plugged in, then decides to go shopping, out to dinner, visit a crack house, whatever, leaving his car connected to a Supercharger like a dick, preventing other Tesla owners from using the Supercharger, and is pissed that Tesla charges him a fee for his selfishness?

I hope Tesla wins this one, although in Alameda County I kind of doubt it. I used to work in Alameda. People there are assholes.

There is always some bitch that ruins it for everyone else.

These are the people in life that haven’t been told no enough so they realize the word doesn’t revolve around them

I can already see the arguments now. We promised you free charging, which we gave you. The fee is for parking or blocking the charger or something like that.

It’s a ramp up based on how empty the battery is. More full it is the slower it goes to protect the battery.

The 120 kw Super chargers can take an empty battery to 200 miles of range in 20 minutes (~80% charge).

The remaining 20% is more of a trickle and can take an additional 30 minutes to get to 100%

Strange. They just built a charging station near my gym recently. This last week I was working out and a fruitcake guy came out of the yoga class and is barefooted and on his phone( people on their phone annoy them frick out of me at the gym) and was on the phone with the dealership wanting to know that if he left his car there for a while longer would he have to pay extra.

He also was about to take a 10 hour trip and wanted to come by the dealership to talk things over and get pointers for using his car on a long trip. Nimrod

So what do people do, bring their car to a charging station and take an Uber to home/work? Can’t it take hours to charge at some places?

He got a free charge. Free parking after the charge wasn’t ever part of the deal. What a dipshit

Typically not at supercharger locations, they run very fast. Non Tesla/supercharger cites can be slow. But they place the super chargers typically at or near shopping locations and restaurants.

If you are in an electric vehicle you are pretty much going to have in home charging, so commute style consumption isn’t the focus. The Nav plans longer routes with points of interest with supercharger locations in mind.

I have heard “destination chargers” can be a bit slower, they they aren’t intended for recharge and go settings. They are further from interstate at places where you will stay for a while.

Tesla should win.

They are providing free charging. The deal wasn’t for a free parking spot that takes up their charging station that they do charge others for. If anything, they should sue him for lost revenue.
