The Supercharger stations are like 25-30 minutes. They are usually positioned where you can do something as a break. Like the one by Acme Oyster House and Trader Joe’s, here in Baton Rouge.

My goodness. You think he's supposed to design this shite by himself and implement all the software and everything?

Yep

It’s just part of the current trade off for no gas or oil needed. Battery tech is improving. The next generation will charge in 15 minutes or less.

I'm not against Elon. He's forward thinking. When it comes to Tesla, I feel that this electric idea won't last as long as he foresees, before the new idea.

He should stick with SpaceX and quicker travel throughout the globe.

Yeah, not a good car for someone that takes long road trips

quote:

Tesla on Tuesday announced a new drivetrain design for the Model S and Model X that extends each vehicle’s range per charge substantially. The 100 kWh battery pack will remain exactly the same as before, contrary to prior reports, but the new additional miles of range will come from increased efficiencies in the drive units. Tesla now claims a pretty massive 370 miles on the EPA cycle for the Model S Long Range, and 325 miles for the Model X Long Range.

quote:

Tesla says the new system includes an all-new permanent magnet motor on the front axle in addition to a more standard fare induction motor on the rear axle. Further improvements have been made to the car’s lubrication, cooling systems, bearings, and gear designs to reduce inefficiencies. With these reductions in rolling resistance, Tesla claims the new drivetrain accounts for a 10% improvement in range, an improvement to regenerative braking harvesting, and even lower 0-60 times.

Further improvements have been made to the S and X models where charging is concerned, as well. The company now claims both Long Range models will be able to charge at a rate of 200 kW on V3 Superchargers and 145 kW on V2 Superchargers. This is stated as being 50% faster than current charging rates.

If you can afford one of the long range S or X models you can drive for quite a while before you need to charge again.

Musk never has to worry about being homeless.

He lives in Janky’s head, rent free.

Can anyone explain to me why so many people are so emotionally wrapped up with the success or failure of Tesla? I don’t get it.

Gonna get wordy.

Musk is a visionary, and has been involved in amazing things. The guy can sell his vision to acquire capital (some from the Feds), attract engineering talent, and inspire the public.

Does he have engineering talent? I don't know, and it really doesn't matter all that much. Genius? Maybe.

Can he pick ideas that move people? I'd say yes.

Does he overpromise and have problems with operations / delivery? You bet. Tesla obviously has issues-- maybe based in technology limitations, maybe operations management problems. Does he relate to Wall Street well? Not really.

We don't know for sure about profitability of SpaceX because it is private at this point. My guess is that they are still "buying work" at this point-- not seeing profits yet-- I could be dead wrong. I find myself reminded of the great sci-fi classic Destination Moon that came out before NASA. Multiple "patriotic" corporations came together to fund and execute the first moon mission. Is that the future? or can one company do it profitably? Not relevant here.

Long story short-- I have the same question you stated. Why do folks get emotional about Tesla and some worship Musk and some call him a fraud? Are some folks too wrapped up in the cult of personality?

I've been watching Nikola Motors for a bit. Similar product as Tesla (hydrogen and battery though). They just had a big event they put on marketed to the heavy truck sector. Implementation of these new ideas is the hardest thing

Well, that's just stupid. Does god miracle your arse to the gas station, or do you burn part of your gas getting there?

Rivian seems like a better option.

Better looking than the new Silverado at least.

Rivians are very nice.
They just don’t have a charging network like Tesla.

That's the original rags to riches of Jim Inhofe and the Inhofe family of Oklahoma. He funded his US Congressional Campaigns after creating an insurance company so his family could get cheap insurance and have others pay for it.

quote:

Lawsuit defendants - identified as Quaker Life directors - are James M. Inhofe, Guy M. Anthony, John W. Sublett, Thomas P. Henson, Robert Edward Clark, Robert J. Thompson, Kay Inhofe, James M. Inhofe II, Perry D. Inhofe II, Crosby G. Bryan, and Marilyn Inhofe Davis. Tulsa insurance executive Perry "Bud" Inhofe Jr., who sued and was sued by his brother Jim in 1988, said he is not the person of similar name listed in Thursday's court action. James Inhofe II and Perry Inhofe II are sons of the Republican congressman. Kay Inhofe is the congressman's wife and Marilyn Inhofe Davis is the congressman's sister, according to Bud Inhofe. In 1986, Quaker Life Insurance Co. collapsed financially. Placing it in receivership helped Jim Inhofe avoid filing for bankruptcy.
Tulsa World Newspaper

Started it with hardly any money.

ETA: not a mention of his insurance business dealings on his wiki page. lol

A few billion from the taxpayers will take care of the charging issue.

How many companies can lose twice what the analysts predicted and have no net negative impact on the stock price?

Most people buying TSLA are doing it for the long haul. Short term losses are nearly meaningless as long as the company is still operating.

Most people buying TSLA realize that it is first and foremost a tech company. It just happens to sell vehicles.

Most people buying TSLA recognize that they are digging deeper and wider moats on multiple fronts. Battery tech and production, a network of rapid charge stations, autonomous vehicle tech, on-premises energy generation and storage.

Most people buying TSLA realize that they are buying future potential rather than present dividends.

They won’t go belly up but they will be acquired.

My guess is Google who has the cash and engineering on hand to buy and successfully monetize the products
