Now enjoyable is the excuse? Fairly lame for a 20k plus upgrade. Hell, the non plug in hybrids made these days are for city usage type benefits

On Tesla Superchargers recharging is pretty fast. I don't have a Tesla but instead have one of those Ford trucks. I suspect in an hour one could have a vehicle up to about 85% charge. But for me I drive locally and charge at home overnight. I have no real complaints. My truck is right at 50,000 miles and still charges up to about 320 miles max charge. I've seen an article saying that with the normal expected degradation of batteries, a vehicle could last 40 years but would have roughly half the range at that time. I'm at three years with no appreciable decline.

Have you ever seen an old EV? They rarely exist. They're like $150 60" flat screens at Walmart. Completely disposable when the main component (battery) craps out.

I am not at all a Tesla fan boy (I drive a Yukon) but my wife has latest model y and it is pretty impressive.
The full self driving is shockingly good.
Also, the charging is really not a big deal at all. There are so many chargers and it charges so quick it's a total non-event.
If you're going on a road trip the car plans everything out for you.

That electricity particularly super chargers are not cheaper than gas and most states pop you at yearly registration with exorbitant fees for "loss of tax dollars from not buying gas" which is far more in taxes than I ever paid with my ice vehicle since I don't drive it that much.

Bought my first Tesla 2026 Model Y in April. Have a Tesla home charger so daily charging not a problem. Made trip to Pensacola easy charging on Tesla superchargers, car will tell you where chargers are located including non-Tesla chargers. Drove last month to Eldorado, AR, played Mystic Creek no problem charging. Certainly enjoy Full Self Driving. So far as expected.

My husband has a Rivian and the storage is awesome because there is a frunk and a trunk. But it’s useless for roadtrips.
Regarding the power outages.. it’s actually a bonus because we can use its battery as a mini-generator to run small appliances from inside the garage. It’s good for a few days of. Lamps/fans/iphones. We also have other cars so we aren’t worried about it running down to zero.
Regarding cost to charge: I did quick math on it once deciding who’s car we should take down to Galveston on the weekend. And at 13.5/kwh it costs about $12 to go in the Electric car and about $25 to make the trip in my giant guzzler Lexus that only takes premium gas. So not free but some savings.

And what are you doing during them that require heavy vehicle usage?

Sort of EV related... We were in the Drip (the cool name for Dripping Springs I learned) and Canyon Lake. In the burbs of Houston, all the Amazon vans are electric, but *none* of them were in the Hill Country. In your travels to AR, did you notice a drop off when you entered the hills vs Interstate/State Highway driving?

My wife has a Cadillac Vistiq and it’s incredibly fast. Insanely, effortlessly, quietly fast. Makes my Raptor feel like a slug. I like it a lot although it’s too high tech for me. It’s solidly built and comfortable. It’s great for local commuting but I wouldn’t have it as my only vehicle. Not ideal for long trips bc charging is still not anywhere close to being convenient. But for local driving, go for it.
