The trucks will come out of Fremont initially on the same line that makes the Model X. So production will be constrained for a while, but not halted.
The new factory will supplement Fremont production years from now. I think Musk is not keen on expanding production in California. Supposedly they are looking hard at Tulsa and Austin. I suspect Las Vegas is also in the hunt.
The new factory will be the first ground up Tesla production facility in the US. Their current plant is an old Toyota/General Motors shared facility that was closed in 2009.

Chevrolet and GMC have something like 35% market share with those ancient vans that they have (the design is 20+ years old). I think that's why they are taking their time. They are likely pushing this production to Navistar in the future and will sell the old vans along side the new ones for a while.
They are extremely old school, but they are also very popular.

From the look of it, the GMC Hummer's open roof design involves removable panels. There is a traditional "basket handle" structure where the B-pillars would be—the roof pillars just behind the front seats—that allows for complete removal of the roof over the front seats, though we can't tell if this roof section will be comprised of one panel or two. Two would obviously be a lot easier to store in the back, though it would present formidable weather-sealing challenges; in Hummer's imagery released so far, the central protrusions from the windshield header and B-pillar basket handle could provide latch points for two removable panels that also would clamp into the vehicle structure at their front and rear edges. This would be similar to Jeep's Freedom Top (hardtop), which uses two removable panels over the front seats held in by clamps and hooks at the windshield header and roll bar.

I love Tesla and their technology. I work with their solar and storage divisions extensively and have a lot of good friends there and some sweet hookups. But that truck is fugly. I was ready to plop down reserve money since I need to replace my 08 Tundra daily driver in the next year or two, but i couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger on that thing.
Now the Rivian is another story. At the moment it's the best one that's been announced in my opinion. Plus i have some colleagues who are intimately familiar with the founder and company. I'm confident it will be a nice truck that performs well.

I'm one of those people that like the look. Im ready for something that doesn't look like the same thing we have had for decades. Teslas are also just smarter than any car I've been in

Yea, they are going to need more money than 100 bucks to qualify as a preorder in my book. When the price is due, 90 percent will back out.
