Ten years ago I worked with this conspiracy theorist..

..one day he told me that the "elites" wanted WW3, but that Western males were too distracted by sports. He said that men got their aggression out by watching football on the weekends, and if the powers-that-be find a way to block that outlet, it will eventually lead to the next big war. I told him he was out of his mind, and he said just remember this conversation when "they" take football away.
When the NCAA football video game was discontinued, I didn't think too much of it. When Will Smith starred in "Concussion" and ESPN talking heads began to lead shows with CTE research studies, I still didn't think much of it. Now with all this anti-American stuff going on, fans boycotting the NFL, and word that the NCAA hoops scandal "likely" extends to football, I'm starting to wonder if my old co-worker wasn't as crazy as I thought.

Steel beams can't be melted by dank memes.

Might be a bit of a stretch

I swear on my life when I was a kid it was berenstein bears not berenstain.

I like the theory.....but there is way too much money in football for anyone to let it go.

How does sitting your arse on a couch watching TV get your aggression out?

Sports are a control mechanism and the elites like them in place. They don't want a bunch of pissed off men actively trying to better themselves.

Exactly. Its a control thing. The elites want good little slaves that will meekly work 8 to 5 and then sit on their arse all weekend watching the idiot box.

#1 football isn't going anywhere
#2 your ex-co worker is a nut job
#3 you need to spend some time outside

No shite. I'm usually napping before halftime. That's how wired up I get.

Actually what they really want is a population of people on welfare who sit at home all day and click on sponsored content while eating Lays chips and drinking Coke and Pepsi products they buy from Wal Mart.

The NFL has indeed culturally aligned itself with the same Progressive movement that seeks to abolish it . This will be done by weakening the bonds between the teams and fans ( mission accomplished ) and burying the league in a sea of CTE lawsuits .
I think instead of choosing war we might just go for a run or spend time with our families.

If there is any type of conspiracy I would argue it's the opposite. Politicians and elites love sports because they distract most people from stuff that actually matters.
Monday night football gets more attention than the passing of laws that directly affect us.
