I know zero people who have gotten in. Google tells me 86 people in Louisiana got it 2025

Less than 1% experience high fever, stiff neck, disorientation, muscle weakness, or paralysis, which mostly impacts older adults or those with compromised immune systems
Sounds like “black mold” or COVID. Big nothings. I am more worried about getting my trailer stolen at a LSU football game.

I haven’t heard of anyone recently, but over the years I’ve known of a handful of cases that have caused a lot of health problems.
It’s a very small percentage, but the bad cases can be really bad.

It was backing in the early 2000s. My older brother was moving to DC for school and me, my Dad, and my other 2 brothers were tasked with helping him move. During the drive I had to go real bad so I peed out the window and a mosquito got me right on my penis. I contracted West Nile Penile Disfunction. I’ve recovered, but some things will never be the same.

Vaguely know someone who had it. Suffering from brain issues now. Many headaches, etc. That's about all I know.

In 2018 my BIL contracted west nile from a mosquito bite in the Florida panhandle. Developed seizer like episodes, taken to UAB and diagnosed there with west nile encephalopathy. To this day he is wheel chair bound and can not talk. Very sad situation. He had a pre-existing kidney disease. Two kidney transplants. This condition contributed to the severity of his case.

My dad (76) was bit by a mosquito carry west nile a year ago. He contracted west nile meningitis and went into a mild coma. He spent 3 months in the hospital and is now home, but his entire right side is still paralyzed. He is doing rehab 3 days a week. May never walk again.

This is what I am hearing. I had no idea it could cause stroke type symptoms that you may not recover from.

Neighbor two houses down got it a few years ago. He is paralyzed and still requires a wheelchair. No clue if he’ll ever recover. He’s in his 70s.

My only story is that we have over 120 sentinel chicken flocks in California over 20+ counties as a surveillance measure for west Nile. I’m trying to get attached to that research for other disease monitoring and testing of dead’s.
I think someone has to go out and bleed the chickens every so often. There’s a public facing GIS map for it. Maybe there’s one for your area as well.

One of my best friends got it in August of 22, he is still on a walker and sometimes in a chair. It’s some bad stuff. Ouchita Parish has had several cases over the last few years.

Last year I had a family member contract it during hunting season. It was bad. Couldn't really communicate and was bed ridden for a week. Was in the hospital for almost 3 full weeks. Doctors told us during the worst of it he had a 20-25% chance he wasn't gonna make it. It was effecting his brain and speech for first week. He was having trouble breathing and moving around 2-3rd weeks before he was finally released. Did leave some issues with facial drooping on one side for at least a month after.
It was no joke and wouldn't wish it on anyone as bad as it affected him.
