Worked there for a summer. It wasn't too bad. Good people, good Mexican, and plenty of watering holes. Worst part is being far from the rest of the world but there are plenty of worse places.

Plus Lubbuck ain't too bad (better college town and Br bar wise) and is only 1:15 away.

My sons godfather moved out there from Chicago for work, he is flat out miserable. And he loved it in Alexandria when he lived down here for college. So that should tell you all you need to know.

First day at the office, you need to walk in and let everyone know "clear eyes, full heart, can't lose".

Blowing dirt. All the damn time.

That's all you need to know. It's in your eyes, your hair, your teeth, your clothes. Blowing dirt everywhere.

Wasn't he basically a failed landman?

1) There are only a few non-failed landmen. Jim Flores, Aubrey McL... Well never mind.
2) HW was president of an exploration company, Zapata, that began in Midland and was very successful. W's oil luck wasn't as good.

I absolutely love the geography and climate of West Texas but it is certainly not for everybody and I understand that.

Midland is where to live. Odessa is for proles.

My mom's family is from there, so a spent a lot of my formative years in Midland unfortunately.

It fricking rains mud out there. Rains. Mud.

Yea really. There are oil refineries, the rest of the lower 48's feces and run off, oil spills, rampant litter, short stupid people with bad genetics, bad dirt, stagnant water, corrupt government officials, and lots of other redeeming things about SLa. It's paradise man.

I just wanted to say that I don't think I've seen a thread on the OT with as much consensus as this thread. I'm proud.

Midland-Odessa must truly be a shithole.
