Pass on that. It's not where you want to live.

Honestly, if you are a physician I would look at the Lake Vista or Lakeview area in New Orleans or Old Metairie and just make the 25 minute commute. There will be a ton of stuff for your family to do and your kids will be able to go to schools better than almost anywhere in the rest of the state or in Mississippi.

It's part of nola metro area. Tbh, some neighborhoods in Arabi and Chalmette arent half bad. But you could also pull off a pretty easy commute from Lakeview or Metairie.

Unless you need to be on call I would live in Slidell and commute. There are several groups that are at ST Tammany/SMH that were from that area. My issue is Hurricane season especially with your family, they evacuate at least 1 time if not 2-3 times a season. Your wife will hate it there, it is not foo-foo enough. Trust me.

I thought you were a CPA? You have enough money to send your kids there.

With that said, I grew up in da parish. If it’s not your thing, you could always live in Lakeview and take the 20 minute commute to chalmette. Lakeview is better than Slidell. Mandeville is better than both but s much farther commute.

Add to this that I’d be taking big pay cut to move there.

Said no one ever.

You do not take a pay cut to move to Chalmette.

I'd either buy a house in old Arabi or go down da road past violet to get a house with lots of land.

Is it that bad? Worse than port Allen (ie, port Allen:Baton Rouge = chalmette:Nola)? Looking from the outside, is chalmette worse than other plant based towns like Sulphur, Westlake, etc? Or is the proximity to Nola a difference maker?

Was that under the reign of Wayne Landry or under Ochsner management?

I know plenty of people who have been there since it opened and they tell me it's like night and day.

I am and I did for a couple of years. Snobby parents, incompetence in the teacher ranks, and my kids not being challenged academically left me to leave. It's easily once of the worst catholic schools in the NOLA area.

My oldest still has some friends there and my kid is so much further ahead academically it's not funny.

We saving 10k a year and getting a better education,
