I hope not. That case had a really sad ending.

Reminds me somewhat of the Steven staynor case, although he was legitimately kidnapped by a pervert.

I remember watching the movie in 1989 that was released. I don't remember many details though.

I Know My First Name is Steven

Sad that he died in a motorcycle accident in 1989 and his brother became a serial killer.

Fry-Pitzen was then found dead by apparent suicide in a Rockford, Illinois hotel room. Police told ABC News at the time that she'd left a note stating that she left Timmothy with people who "would care for him and love him," but didn't name them.

Almost sounds like season 3 of True Detective

Generation Why podcast episode on this was solid FTR, for anybody who wants to catch up on it.

quote:

Timmothy Pitzen. May 11, 2011. Aurora, Illinois. A mother contacts her son's elementary school to say that there is a family emergency and that she is going to pick him up. After she leaves with him, they go to the zoo as well as some water parks in Illinois and Wisconsin. She embarked on this trip without the knowledge of her husband who thought that she was possibly just taking some time out as their marriage had been experiencing difficulties. After several days, though, his wife's body was discovered in a motel room in Rockford, Illinois. She had taken her own life. Also troubling was that their son, Timmothy Pitzen, was nowhere to be found. Amy Pitzen had written three notes before her death; leaving one behind in the room with her and the other two were mailed out to her mother and a friend of hers. Within these notes she indicates that Timmothy was being cared for and that "there were just too many pieces to pick up". Did she hand her son over to someone else? Or could she have done the unthinkable before ending her own life?

I’m skeptical.

The thing I’m most skeptical about is that he said he kidnappers are two men with a bodybuilder’s build.

That is not at all the type of person I think of when I think of someone kidnapping a child. And it seems more like something a 13 year old kid would make up. In his mind he’s gotta think up some big scary bad guys, and what is more scary than some really huge muscular guys with tattoos.

When in reality a creep that would kidnap a kid doesn’t really fit that profile.

So the last paragraph of the article reads like his mother gave him to some people before she killed herself

Or they held him at gun point and made her write the note, then staged the suicide.

Yeah, but why wouldn't she just kill herself instead of paying any of the debts instead of giving her kid up then killing herself?

Makes no sense.

But then it would be quite a coincidence that the mom and kid ran into kidnappers (an extremely unlikely event) at the exact same time that the mom had already decided to go rogue on her own. Much more likely it was part of her plan, whether that plan went bad or not.

Maybe it was her plan to sell him/give him away, then she reneged on that and they staged the suicide.

Or they were running away together and were staying in some seedy areas and ran into the wrong people.

Or she gave him away to someone she thought would take care of him (conned on the internet maybe?) because she was suicidal and those people just ended up being bad people in the end. Now that I think about it more, this seems most likely. That is why she spent one last fun day with him. And she didn't trust the father to take care of him.

Maybe they threatened to kill the kid if she killed herself without settling the debt first

This is crazy. Who the heck is he and why would he lie about something like that? How would he even know who the kid was?
