**Update**
Turns out the guy lied and posed as the kid. Supposedly has a criminal past and has been psychologically evaluated in the past.

Well...good job getting people’s hopes up. Couldn’t imagine being that boy’s father right now...

Crazy if it turns out to be him!

An Ohio man whom authorities said falsely claimed to be Timmothy Pitzen, the Illinois boy who went missing in 2011 at age 6, was found to have a long criminal history and was once psychologically evaluated, according to reports.
Brian Rini, 23, of Medina, Ohio, was spotted in a Newport, Ky. neighborhood early Wednesday by residents who suspected he was trying to steal a neighbor’s car. When they approached Rini, he reportedly told them he was Pitzen, according to police in Sharonville, Ohio.
quote:
Police records cited by the station indicate that Rini had been on authorities’ radar even before the burglary and vandalism. In 2013, Rini’s mental competency to stand trial in Medina County, Ohio, was evaluated but officials determined he was of sound mind. Rini's brother, however, refuted those claims, telling Cleveland's FOX 8 that his brother has mental health issues.

The FBI and local authorities are working to verify a boy's claim that he's a child who went missing in 2011 and he'd just escaped from a pair of kidnappers when he encountered police Wednesday morning.
The boy told Campbell County, Kentucky, authorities that he is 14-year-old Timmothy Pitzen, and that two kidnappers had been holding him for seven years, according to a Sharonville, Ohio, police report. He told authorities that he escaped and kept running.
quote:
Aurora police said the DNA tests will take about 24 hours. Several neighbors in Newport said they saw the boy and at first thought he was a suspicious person walking around near West Eighth and Columbia Street at about 8 a.m. Wednesday, until they saw bruising hidden by his hoodie and realized he appeared scared. They called the police.
quote:
Timmothy was last seen with his mother, 43-year-old Amy Fry-Pitzen, on May 11, 2011. She'd checked him out of his kindergarten class and driven him to a zoo and water parks before the boy seemingly disappeared after they checked out of a Wisconsin Dells resort. HIs father reported Timmothy missing on May 12
Fry-Pitzen was then found dead by apparent suicide in a Rockford, Illinois hotel room. Police told ABC News at the time that she'd left a note stating that she left Timmothy with people who "would care for him and love him," but didn't name them.
Crazy if it turns out to be him!

You'd be surprised what some people do for attention.

So the last paragraph of the article reads like his mother gave him to some people before she killed herself

He was never kidnapped, the mom gave him away...

Wow. If that’s him.
Can you imagine being his mother or father?
Eta: The mom killed herself.

It’s amazing that he had the situational awareness to know when to make a break for it and to be patient and wait for the right opportunity

His description of the 2 people was so vague - 7 years with these people and they never called each other by name?

I remember listening to this case on the Generation Why Podcast from 2017.
I figured his mother had killed him and hid the body.
