They just opened this thing a few months ago.
And I'd imagine it'll never be operating again.
You can hear the employee asking the others if they checked the harness and they said they did.

A little boy was decapitated at a water park near me a few years ago. People went to jail and - as far as I know - the entire park has never reopened.

In my experience workers will always claim they followed procedure to the letter in circumstances far less dire than someone’s death.

Kansas City - Schilterbahn - or however you spell it.

I watched with tremendous trepidation only because I wanted to see how the ride failed. You can't see that unfortunately
Before the ride started, that lady was asking why there isn't a seat belt. Ride operator said something I couldn't understand, but that the pull down arm over the shoulders was enough.
The guy slid out underneath the pull down arm as the ride started to slow down from its free fall. There should he some kind of 3 point lap belt that goes between the legs that prevents a person from sliding out. How the engineers that designed this didn't see that is a mystery?

I always heard people talk about Action Park from the 80s in New Jersey that was crazy and a lot of lawsuits, even a few deaths. I think they made a documentary about it.

At least I had the City part right. That was a horrible deal.

It looks like he slid out the bottom of his seat. You’d think for a ride like that, there would be a 5 point harness and other restraint devices as well. It looks like the only restraint device on the ride was some type of over the shoulder bar.
Yep. Seems like on that ride it would have the seat belt clip so you couldn't slide out where force was taking you.

Curious to see if this accident also has to do with the size of the rider coupled with poor design, like the one at the water park.

And that ride just opened in December 2021. So tragic. I can't imagine seeing that as a parent.

The kid in that one was too small, right? As in the ride threw him up such that he made contact with the canopy or whatever?
Awful saga that was. Thankfully no video but I remember the photograph of the tinted water at the base of the ride.

Not only that, but a seatbelt between the crotch would also be an additional safety mechanism to ensure the over-the-shoulder harness does not completely fly up. I honestly thought this system was regulation, but what do I know. Most of the beside the highway "amusement parks" scare the shite out of me anyway. They're only good for mini golf.

ETA: apparently it's already gone. Guess that makes sense considering I was in the area in November and didnt see any rides. Just didnt even think about it

Apparently this happened on the same ride last year around this time too? Fun Spot really needs to be shut down.

I didn't know that - I haven't been by there in years, but it was extremely tragic when it happened. The owners/designers of the ride sounded like complete morons.

I would think there would be an anti-submarine belt coming up between the legs that tied into the drop bar.
3 possibilities or a combo of them...
1. Poor design
2. Safety check done incorrectly
3. Kid was messing around.
Horrible.

Yea that happened not long after I moved to Wichita and I remember it being all over the news here. I think that single incident ended up causing 4 more rides to close because of not being up to code. If I remember right it was some sort of elected officials kid as well.
