No, if 60k as a teacher in Mississippi lets you live fairly comfortably, I can't imagine how you'd survive off that same salary in Hawaii. shite's expensive.

Eta: Unless you're fresh out of college with no big debts. If that's the case, go for it.

The pay isn't great. But frick it, you only live once. If you're young and don't have a family, do it. If it sucks, go home after a year.

I live here, dont recommend it. Pays low and the education is poor. Manti, Mariota, Obama of course, Max Unger all went to private schools. Unfortunately, so do my kids at $20k per year!!!! I have 3 kids

They hate white people and tell you to your face. They are incredibly racist. I made some great friends out there and they were good people but most of them were not locals. The educated natives are nice and good people. The problem is the rest are just lazy idiots who think you owe them something because you are on their island. The funny thing is about 10-15% of the population is considered to be truly native, the rest are transplants from SE Asia somewhere.

60k in Hawaii is about 20k in Louisiana. And a lot of the locals hate white people.

So your options are stay in Louisiana....or move to Hawaii?

And you are having to think twice about this? You are single with no kids. A teacher.....so already used to not making a ton of money. Why not? You may love it or hate it, but imagine the unique experiences you will have there. And can always move back later on.

You'll have to live in the projects with the dregs of society because you can't afford anything at all. Buddy of mine did it and hated it.

no, that is accurate to an extent. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of cool natives there as well, but there is definitely an element of that. I'd honestly be more worried about moving there and having my kids be exposed to that than myself. If it was just me I'd absolutely do it for the surfing alone.

I've been here on Oahu for the past 2 years. Cost of living is very high. Electricity ranges between 250-400 monthly, depends on of you live on the windward or leeward side. Not every house has ac. Traffic sucks for no reason. Rent for a decent place starts around 2500 a month. 60k isn't nearly enough to enjoy living here.

Would not do that. But if I won the lottery I would buy a home on Kauai and live ther half the year. Maybe moonlight as a bartender in Hanalei just to shoot the shite with people.

I moved to the Texas Panhandle for a job, so I would sure as hell move to Hawaii for one.

No. Hawaii is a great place to visit. To live, no

I loved living there. I just stayed away from Honolulu.

To the OP, no, I wouldn't teach there. Unless it was on-post or a private school.
