It sounds like moving to Hawaii would make me black.

Absolutely.

If you don't like it, move on after the school year.

It's 100% true. My step brother moved to Hawaii, and he is dark enough to pass for a native, was treated like shite for a while.

+ 18% over US average. +25% over south Louisiana.

But you are in Hawaii and once you are a resident for year, you can bid for other better jobs with the state and feds.

I live here, dont recommend it. Pays low and the education is poor. Manti, Mariota, Obama of course, Max Unger all went to private schools. Unfortunately, so do my kids at $20k per year!!!! I have 3 kids

I went to Punahou (60's) when we lived there. I cannot believe how high the tuition and expenses are now.

I'm not sure why this would be overly concerning for anyone that has lived in South Louisiana.

My question would be what kind of environment exists in the schools. If you are teaching in an intercity type places where discipline is out of control and no support from the administration, hell no !!
But if you are in a decent situation, get a couple of friends, share expenses and have at it. You only live once.

After spending a week in Hawaii last year, I would say absolutely not.

Obviously a beautiful place, but the separation in classes is extremely and painfully obvious.

3 generations under one roof is the norm, and it is a damn small roof.

You would also be required to teach a lot about traditional (and I think foolish) native culture as the native Hawaiians try vainly to make sure "their" story doesn't fade away.

Also, you aren't spelling it right; it is Hawai'i.

Wife is a teacher, and I have a college degree. Hmmm, maybe she and I can move down there, that's $130k a year. We could sell the house and get a place on the beach.

The native Hawaiians are basically the fat, stupid welfare trash of Hawaii. It's sad, actually.

But that said, if you like tan, beautiful women, Hawaii is a great place to be.
