Only in the most elementary, generalized view is this askew from the freedoms many here post about.
In any business there's an acceptable level of presentation of self. He went well beyond that, so much so that it becomes distracting and if it's distracting then it has no place in the work environment.
TL;DR - You have a right to express yourself, society has a right to not accept you for it.

Whoa.
One. Freedom of choice does not mean freedom FROM consequence.
Two. Part of the job is the ability to relate and communicate with kids. Now, the local civil service could not refuse his application and they did not. However, reality of the situation came to light. Hard to fool a kid.

I'll put it to you this way:
All things being equal (experience, etc) Someone with no visible ink gets the job before someone with. Wouldn't be the only reason but it is a tie breaker.
I'll trust the judgment of someone with no tats vs with given no other info.

I've seen people defending this guy on the facebooks. Sorry bro, you can't look like you just emerged from the depths of hell and expect parents to be ok with you teaching their kids.
