Again, the taxi drivers WANTED those regulations. It's absolutely their own fault that they're in this situation. Making Uber/Lyft more like taxis for the sake of fairness is an awful idea.

Austin has plenty of clean green colored taxis. It just makes a better ride not being in a beat up piece of junk.

Question: was it the restaurants "fault" reservations were 6 months and food quality was lacking for the price or is it the governments fault for limiting the industry?
Well, in the case of taxis, it is the fault of taxi unions themselves.

The public had nothing to do with it.

They demanded these regulations. They pushed for limiting the number of texis, not the public.

It has simply come back to bite them in the arse.

The taxi mafia deserves what it gets.

Uber works and will continue to do so if the politicians keep their greasy paws out of it and just let the citizens make free choices in the market.

There are cities where Uber can be a full time job and you make a good living.

in Lafayette it took a fricking hour for a cab to show up, if it showed up at all. New Orleans is worse. Uber is prompt, cheap, and you don't have drivers taking you all over creation to run up the fare. This has absolutely nothing to do with being hip or racist. The service is just better.

Prove it

BTW I've read the stupid fortune article that's comparing apples to oranges, the entire solar industry in the United States only outnumbers "fossil fuel power plant jobs" it's propaganda.

The US has the biggest coal reserves in the world. Why would we not tap into that and save other resources that aren't as abundant.

I bet there was a similar crash in horse drawn carriage income when the vehicle was invented.

Unfortunate there are still goobers out there in places like Austin that are upset about it.

Austin has 2 other ride services that replaced Uber and Lyft.

Uber is a scam for drivers. The model is built on cheap rides for people and delayed operating costs for drivers when their cars everntually break down. I can see why taxi companies are pissed.

If this is true then eventually drivers will quit Uber or the rates will increase, the market will correct itself over time. The taxi companies are only pissed because they lost their monopoly and have to compete with a better service.

And government officials promptly had egg on their face the moment these inferior imitations promptly experienced server crashes during high demand downtown events. Uber and Lyft will now be back.
