Target Registers Go Down Nationwide

I went to the Target in Houma and saw a long line to check out.
Checked online and found out the registers were down.
USA Today
When I was there, each item had to be scanned with their handheld l price checker and then the cashier had to type in a department code followed by the price slowing the process.
I lost out on all my Target cartwheel offers and Target wallet because that system didn’t work either.
I did indulge on free popcorn and drinks.
Unfortunately, I was in there too long the feed the birds with the leftover popcorn.

It seems dumb that they don't at least have a pricing system backup at the store that gets updated weekly with the new prices as a backup to the "online" system

I was thinking the same.
But in today’s connected world it is usually cheaper to host everything in the cloud instead of having multiple servers (one in each store as backups).
I commented to the cashier it felt like I was back in the 70’s before bar codes changed the way we check out.
What was funny is that, I could still use my phone to scan items and look for prices and Target offers. Now if they could combine that with purchasing like Walmart and Sams did with Scan and Go. Problems like this would not nearly be as bad.
