There are YouTube vids galore that make this look really easy, so I was thinking about doing this myself.

Has anyone tried this? Should I go it alone, or hire a plumber? My concern with a plumber is that it looks like it'll take some time (1-2 hrs), so it probably won't be cheap.

If I do pay a plumber, how much should I expect to spend?

If your heater was installed with a flush valve kit (it should be) and it it's mounted on the exterior of the house then it's a really easy job and the stakes of making a mistake are very low (they're a bit higher if the heater's in the attic). It's a really easy job and nothing anyone who can turn a few ball valves and can't handle.

A plumber will likely cost you $150-250

Hire a plumber and be sure to show your gratitude. It's a tankless job.

Mine's in the attic. I'm thinking water leaks are all that could go wrong right?

Yeah, I wouldn't even worry about leaks so much as just spilling a bucket of water in the attic though.

I have two tankless water heaters, wasn't aware they need to be flushed. How often?

I am looking to do this in the coming months too but I am going to hire a professional. My time is worth something and I let professional plumbers do major plumbing projects.

Very easy assuming you have the right valves in place. Did mine this past weekend, used a cheap boat bilge pump

I think Rheem recommends (and may require it to be) at least once a year. The type of water you have makes a big difference in how necessary it is though. If you have really hard water that builds up a lot of scale then you may need to do it more often.

Supposedly once a year, but that is assuming you have very hard water. I do mine every 3-5 years in Baton Rouge.

I have done mine a few times. It's very easy and the most time consuming part is letting the pump run for an hour. I haven't had any problems with mine but most people never flush them and I have had multiple neighbors have the igniters go out in the past few months after 6 years of operation.

I know with some of the tankless water heaters you get a lifetime warranty if you hire a license plumber

You do it yourself or hire someone?

I do believe mine are Rheem brand as well.

Do it myself. You basically set it up, make sure it is working right and then come back in an hour. It is something like 5 minutes of actual work.

Sorry, what do you mean 'set it up'?

I'm sure youtube can walk me through it I guess.
