You need better public transit to skip out on owning a car. Like DC/NYC. It’d be brutal in Dallas.
My next-door neighbor doesnt own a car..he walks, Ubers, or takes the bus/streetcar everywhere he needs to go.

I didn’t have a car for like 6 months for a stint when I lived in the WHD and did not have a problem. I also worked at the Pan am building and didn’t have a kid. Now I live uptown and can’t imagine not having a car. F depending on the street car to get downtown.

And I know someone in Manhattan who owns a car and pays to park it.
Of course there are always outliers, but in general it's pretty necessary to own a car in NOLA and it's pretty unnecessary to own a car in Manhattan.

Straight up OT Baller right there.

My friend lives in the village and owns a car for some reason. He pays $500/mt to park that thing. If you live in the Village though, you can afford to pay to park your car. It’s the only way to get to the Hamptons on the weekends.

If Inwere single and lived in the WHD, I would have no problem not having a car.

A sea of asphalt parking lot will become a 29 story structure that will be seen for miles, and continue the boom of downtown living
Glad there is some economic development, although 29 stories is kind of an also-ran even in New Orleans or Baton Rouge.
It would go unnoticed in Chicago or even Houston.

Friend of mine works for a title company that has the exclusive rights for a building being built down town. She said it's all out of towners buying up the place. One guy from Chicago bought a penthouse and 3 other units. Plans on renting out the 3 units and keeping the penthouse as a vacation home.

That’s an expensive investment property. I assume he’s using them as short term rental.

I really like that design. The ivy will look awesome in the middle of the WHD.

Do you know what is being built on Canal St at the corner of what I think is Rampart? It's roughly between the Saengar and the Ritz.
Looks like some pretty strong foundations being put down.

Yeah this would never work for me. I’d go insane without the ability to pack my shite up and go wherever the frick I want at the drop of a hat. frick not having a car.
Nothing wrong with this, but this development isn't for you, or me either at my point in life. But I guarantee at least of half of the people who rent here will work white-collar jobs downtown and will be thrilled to not own a car and maintain a car. Also $400 ($200 monthly parking plus $200 monthly car insurance in NOLA, yes rates here are insane), I could rent a car for 2 days every weekend and take 6-8 ubers a week and still come out ahead.
I've lived in DC and traveled monthly to NYC so I have experience with urban, walkable communities. The addition of the Rouses (nicest supermarket in the City) changed this neighborhood and made it the 2nd (FQ was the first) truely walkable, urban neighborhood in the City where having a car is more of a burden and expense than not having one.

You'd be lucky to get a $400 parking spot here. Forget the insurance.

Yeah. I've been watching that one. Prices are crazy though. $439,000 for a 1bd/1bth and a condo fee of $391/mth with 782 square feet... where do I sign up....
