Happened not long ago at the American Can Company in mid-city. Low income tenents (the ones who caused 95% of the trouble) were told without much notice to get the fck out.

Yeah i remember that, I felt for some of those people until I found out they were paying $500 a month for a two bedroom two bath.

But its a much more sophisticated work around now, the poor people never actually get to move in!

Depth to bedrock in lower Manhattan is within a few feet of the surface as well as midtown. In areas like the village and SOHO its much greater, thus that's why when you look at the skyline the concentration of taller buildings are in lower and midtown.

so what, 71 apartments won’t even get a single parking spot?

Must be a suburbanite. If I lived there I wouldn't own a car and pay extra for parking. I assume I would work downtown and walk/bike to work (also save money on work parking), the dome/arena for games, and dinner and bars with an occasional uber/lfyt RTA and bus/streetcar ride mixed in. There is a full service grocery store 1 block away I would shop at, what else do I need?

If I wanted to leave town to drive somewhere I could rent a car every weekend for the cost of my parking pass.

Exactly, not really a market standard for all units to have in-building parking downtown with residents often getting a monthly contract in a nearby garage if necessary - plus apartment units almost always charge extra optional fee for a parking pass when they do have a deck in the building.

Also, the first stage of South Market includes a massive parking deck they can probably use that if necessary.

Cool, a new place to get shot in NOLA.

Man, you are so edgy.

Still amazed at how many don't realize how much new stuff has been built in downtown in the last 10 years.
This ain't in the hood btw.

Has The Saulet gone section 8? Was a great place to live pre Katrina and maybe a few years after. Not sure if it’s still a decent place to reside.

That sounds like literal hell.

Yeah this would never work for me. I’d go insane without the ability to pack my shite up and go wherever the frick I want at the drop of a hat. frick not having a car.

Apparently owning a car is a “suburbanite” thing now.

A lot of people in major cities don't pay for a car because it just doesn't make sense.

NOLA isn't one of those places.

You need better public transit to skip out on owning a car. Like DC/NYC. It’d be brutal in Dallas.

Yeah that's essentially what I was trying to say. An actual public transit system as well as things being walkable are pretty much a prerequisite for not having a car.

NOLA has neither of those.

Bingo. NYC, Chicago, DC, and maybe Boston are the only places I'd consider living without a car. All have good and relatively safe mass transit and are dense enough to live comfortably without one.

I'd even have a car in Atlanta. Too spread out and you'll probably be shot, stabbed, or robbed (or all three) within a year using MARTA.
