Me and a group of high school buddies are visiting a friend who owns a private ranch in Grandview TX. It’s a pretty big plot of land and he has his own firearm range installed in it. A guy in our group has a non-violent drug offense for marijuana possession which has been on his record since 2012. He had been a lawful firearms owner before being convicted. He’s a good guy who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The dude who owns the ranch knows nothing about him being a felon.

Is it worth the risk of being associated with aiding a felon in possessing a firearm? Besides the weed, he’s never caused any trouble at all. I’m debating if I should go or not. Just wanted some advice

Can it be proven that you know about? Other than this post on a public message board where you mention the approximate date of the offense as well as the location you’re planning this at?

You're gonna turn this guy into a felon too. Ask him if he thinks its worth it.

Our country should be ashamed turning people like that into felons.

Dude whos ranch it is has a right to know.

If he's cool with it, it shouldn't be a problem. If he's not, don't do it. It's his ranch

No way would I risk that since you have knowledge of it - also potentially putting the owner at risk too. Bad idea

There's more to this story. How the F do you get felony charges for possession? Was he farming the shite?

Who will know besides you 2? Take your friend. There is zero risk involved. I know felons that go to sheriff range. Nobody is doing background checks to use a public range.

I believe it is no longer illegal for him to own/possess a firearm, if it really was a non-violent crime.

Don't let him use your gun......

Otherwise, nothing will come of it. You're overthinking this.

How could he get in trouble for a felon (unknown) using guns on his own property?

The dude got busted for weeds years ago. Chill.
People worry about the weirdest crap these days. Nobody is running a back ground check . He doesn't own the guns anyway.

He needs to talk to an attorney. He may be able to have his rights reinstated.

The guy who owns the ranch has a wife and three kids. I honestly want to disclose it to him just so he knows

I'm just saying out of courtesy since he's hosting on his land.

It's one of those situations that doesn't seem like a big deal until something weird happens and then it is.
