In my limited experience the grandmother is a safer bet. Genes tend to skip a few generations

Weight and lifestyle choices, of course, have a HUGE impact on how one looks as they age.

Yeah, the lifestyle definitely makes huge difference.

I was thinking about it last month. I have a cousin who lives in NY and her 3 sisters all came for a family get together. All four are in their early to mid forties.

The one livng in NY is actually the oldest daughter but people thought she was a daughter of one of the younger sisters.

None of the others are badly obese but probably all 20 or so pounds heavier and, more significantly, just have a "Mom" look about how they dress, do their hair etc and act.

False. My wife looks nothing like her mother. Wife is 5'9" and blonde. Mother is 5'0"" and brown hair.

Some take more after their dad. 50/50 shot. Plus, a lot of it involves attitude and taking care of yourself. My MIL let herself go and didn’t try to do better. My wife doesn’t have that problem.

And exactly why I married my wife. And it was a great decision, to this day

Not always true, but the majority of the time yes. Especially true when dealing with a healthy lifestyle. If the mom at one point was good looking and gave up around 40 then it's what she saw and has the possibility of following.

My mother in law doesn’t take care of herself the way my wife does. Their faces and height are similar, but it stops there. MIL isn’t fat, but she’s never exercised a day in her life, lives in the sun, and eats sweets constantly. My wife is addicted to yoga and skin care

Waiting to see how this plays out in my world. If my wife looks like her mom, that is completely fine by me. My sister and I look just like our dad, which means we also look like his sister. For the record they are Irish twins. Will be interesting to see how it plays out as far as if she’s more like our mom or more like my dad’s side of the family.
