Pineville is dry.
OT answers with if LSU was there it would not be dry

Pineville has no crime and murders
OT logic would be same as above. Right?

You really don't know how economies work if you believe that.

Louisiana College is still in Pineville.

And as a Pinevillian, I can say Pineville is a long way from being a college town.

Great place to live though. Gotta love the Pineville Rebels.

What's better? The stench of Baton Rouge or Pineville? Both smell horrible.

Maybe. I'm sure crime would be higher. Would it be as high as BR now? I want to say no, but I don't know how industry in the area would have changed if LSU were in Pineville.

Would Pineville be larger than Alex now?

It is an interesting topic IMO

I was sarcastically saying those cities would be the exact same with or without their schools...

It’s pretty much the dead center of the state.

For somebody that's lived in Louisiana for 38 of 42 years I'm very poor with our state's geography. Really the only towns north of about St Francisville I'm familiar with are Funroe and Shreveport

Fair point. Do the baptists have as much pull in Pineville as the Pentecostals do in Alexandria? If so, it would probably be a 50/50 chance it would stay dry.

I think if LSU was in Pineville, there would not be as much of a Catholic / Protestant divide or a Coon arse / Red Neck divide in our state. The line would be blurred more as LSU would mesh the entire state. Likely, La Tech and ULM would not exist or be nearly as big since LSU would be so much closer.

Pineville would not be dry, but I think it would have the fun crazy party atmosphere at LSU does in BR. It's Louisiana for crying out loud.

Baton Rouge would be very similar to Jackson, MS or Montgomery, AL. Only relevant because of the state capital and that is it.

Definitely think the town would be completely different. Not nearly as Protestant, and like others said, would probably be more like Auburn, Oxford, or Athens. The population from LSU staff, support services and all other necessities related to a college town would have Pineville at 100k people, easily. Add in professors and students from all over the world who might end up living there long term? You're looking at a completely different demography, and therefore town, all together.

I'm glad it didn't stay there because my upbringing would've been a whole lot different. I probably wouldn't have ended up going to LSU if it were in my hometown. I was eagerly ready to escape at age 17.

it could have been a great one if lsu never moved. do you disagree with that?

I can't see a situation where lsu would be worse off in pville than BR.
