I got a lab/German Shepherd mix from the shelter and she was only 8 months old. Best dog ever. Obviously don't get a pit or a chihuahua but plenty of good options for dogs at shelters.

Did the same and also the best dog I’ve ever had. He’s 12 now. After him if I ever get another one it will also be a lab/german shepherd mix.

It’s a sham imo

would you rather the individual breeds just fizzle away and we can just have "mixed" dogs? Are you a globalist?

We tried getting a rescue dog through an NGO about 10 years ago and I literally threw the rep and dog out of the house. This group wanted to have legal authority granted to them that would allow them to come into my house at any time to verify I was maintaining the conditions of the lease contract for the dog.

There are deals out there because of inflation and the economy. Look harder. We just got a designer breed puppy for 1/3 of the normal cost. The breeder was lamenting the lack of disposable income people have these days.

Unless you want to something fancy, look at your local pound. Especially when they have adoption events.

Filled out an application that had so many questions I felt like I was filling out a medical form again. It's insane the cost of buying a pet these days even through adoption.

My fiancé was pissed at how hard it was to adopt, and how many barriers are put up. She blamed Karen white women for getting involved in the process and mucking it up. Where I currently live, any dog that isn't a pit-bull is almost immediately scooped up by someone.

Got bad news for you if you think spending thousands guarantees a great dog.

I even looked into foster dogs, but those are now $400 or more, it seems, and plenty of hurdles to jump through. Filled out an application that had so many questions I felt like I was filling out a medical form again. It's insane the cost of buying a pet these days even through adoption.

I had to be interviewed as a character witness for my friends who wanted to adopt a pug from a rescue. They even did a home visit. It was nuts

It was hard to keep a straight face when they asked me hard hitting questions over the phone. “Have they ever raised their hands to an animal?” “Have they ever yelled at an animal?”

Eh? People are on Facebook every day trying to give away dogs for free or next to nothing. I adopted a bordie collie mix from a local humane society for like $25. They had already given her shots and a spade.

Our home visit was comical. I could tell they were uncomfortable when they asked "Would you spend 20k to cure a dog of illness" and I said depends on the illness, because anything that costs 20k probably isn't going to have the dog living a great life.

I’ve owned a variety of breeds but now that I’ve had a shiba I don’t think I’ll ever get another breed. Their personality and quirkiness are another level of entertaining.

We have had our dog for 4 years now. We got him from the dog foster place on Highland in BR. He is a mixed breed Terrier with alot of Jaq D in him. Paid $186 to get him. Best dog I have ever had. Great with the kids and can hear anything going on outside out if the ordinary.

We went to the foster place. Found the one we wanted. Signed some papers and walked out with him an hour later. It was easy. They even paid for heartworm medicine for 6 months.

It’s laughable to think any dog knows where it came from. Nothing wrong with a shelter dog, but you have no clue who the parents are. The realty is that getting a pet for 10-15 years that you know comes from trusted parents is much more likely to lead to a good pet.
