How is it possible that these surfers and swimmers in Australia do not learn? Its like going for a hike in Alaska and knowing there are grizzly bears all over the place

With bears you at least have a chance to defend yourself. With a shark you are totally out of your element.

Being a landlocked freshwater guy I don't mess with the ocean. I just don't have the knowledge. Only time I've even been to the ocean I was 6 and all I remember was picking up a big blob of clear jelly on the beach and my mom losing her mind screaming at me lol

No shite? What about when you drive on a highway? Are you taking a risk that another driver may kill you? Every single person who dies in an accident could have mitigated the risk by not doing whatever he was doing. Pointing that out is gratuitous.

Drowning incidents might drastically increase in this scenario, a conundrum to be sure.

There was a SEAL killed night diving by a bull

Do not recall location, but do seem to remember it was a training exercise

The tiger shark that killed that guy in Egypt a few years ago was brutal. Just rag dolled him

There aren't too many things I wish I could straight up erase from seeing but that video is probably in the top 10.

The way you worded that makes it seem like the shark fricked him.

Theres never been a SEAL or UDT swimmer killed by sharks on duty or training. The author ill link to below is a former SEAL. himself.

The statistics also back up the Navy SEALs’ confidence when it comes to shark encounters. Even with countless hours of training in the ocean, including those at San Clemente Island (a well-known seal habitat and potential shark feeding ground), there has never been a single recorded shark attack on a Navy SEAL trainee, not even in the course of thousands of BUD/S third phase swims executed there.

I feel bad for the family and the guy that died, but man, that was the perfect gif for opening that link.

It was definitely military and a diver

Would have assumed US Navy

I’ll attempt to find it

I remember it from a Shark Week show

But not certain if it was US, might have been Australian

My kid was on the boat when he jumped off. No one said he screamed or hollered when he was in the water.

They need to take that same boat out in the day time, go to the same spot and throw something heavy into the water mimicking that boy jumping over and see if any sharks immediately appear to check it out. Video it a release to the public to solve the mystery.

It's not like they are unaware of these facts. You talk to anybody over there that works for a global company, and they for sure know that their pay is lower and taxes higher than the same level employee here in the US, but they also take the entire month of August off, along with way more government holidays and vacation time than we get.

The only exception I've worked with are the Swiss. They get higher pay and more time off.

There had to have been numerous people on their phones as well as eyeballs on the kid that could easily see a shark attack. The fact this story disappeared like a thief in the night makes me suspicious
