The system is the problem, blaming an entire generation of people who were told their entire lives they have to go to college regardless of expense is not a solution.

What idiot would pay on an interest free loan when they dont have to? Inflation has been got and the principal amount aint changed. The rational move is to not pay while you dont got to.

Me?

I took out 110k for my doctorate degree. After interest that accumulated while I was in school it came out to 134k.

I’ve paid all the interest that accumulated and started cutting into principal by continuing to make payments. It also didn’t give me a false sense of having a higher income like some people because I still paid every month

Because you reduce the amount of principle so when interest does come back you have a much lower amount. And with no interest you lowered principle a ton more.

This decision will guarantee Biden’s reelection. The Democrats will get the youth vote with this and the Roe v Wade reversal.

Now this is irony. The HEROES Act which passed Congress and was signed into law in 02 allows relief to those with student loans during a national emergency. Only Brandon himself declared that the "Covid national emergency" was over. Oops.

Young progs take this crap hook line and sinker every single time. It would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad. This board shits on millennials a lot but they are Normandy stormers compared to the generation behind them. Holy frick what a disaster.

They weren't attacked by debt. Debt is not a natural disaster. This is like 40 million people stabbing themselves in the face and demanding the government pay for plastic surgery.

This. I have a well paying job because of college, and I borrowed, since my parents did not pay a dime (which is cool; I have nine siblings). I only have a balance because of medical debt. I stopped paying for a short while to see what will happen. I mean, I'm gonna pay anyway.

Why is “Pay your debts” such a difficult concept for people?
I didn’t pursue a graduate degree because it was too much and I didn’t want to take on loans. Some did, now they should pay it back.

I have a lot of thoughts on this.

A) I’m glad this got struck down because it would’ve been a ridiculous load of added debt for something that isn’t needed.

B) honestly with the stupid shite we’ve wasted money on recently (looking at you Ukraine and most of the covid shite) this really wasn’t as bad in comparison, so there is that.

C) this did nothing to fix the real problem. Schools charge whatever the frick they want because they know students will just take out a loan to pay it. There’s no excuse that the cost of school has far outpaced inflation the last 20-30 years. More needs to be done to firce universities to manage their budget/costs to keep it from being the stupid financial burden it’s become.

D)I always felt government backed student loans should be interest free as long as you’re making monthly payments. Keep in mind I’m not an economic mind so if there’s some sort of economic reason there has to be interest I apologize for the dumb take.

If the rate of interest is lower than the rate of inflation then the government (i.e. taxpayers) is losing money.

I do agree that the interest rates should remain as low as possible - just not zero.

that makes sense. Then just whatever it takes to keep up with inflation and make it adjustable.

Personally I think capping the amount of money you can take and 0% interest rates would have had a better outcome

That implies that the democrat leadership was ever interested in solving the problem and helping people.

They are not interested in actually helping and never were. Everyone knows knocking fed loans to 0% or whatever interest rate would help a lot of people. they aren't interested. All it ever was, or is, is just another fake bs promise to get people to vote for them.

Well Tennessee decided a few years ago going communist was a good thing and we just started giving 2 years free college for any adult that has never attended colllege to go to a community college. It’s a good program and we appreciate it.

Guess what, being a liberal doesn't make you charitable. Charity is taking your own money and giving to those in need. There is nothing preventing you, personally, from taking your own income and giving it directly to a college student who has loans. And why haven't you done that? Because you don't want to really help anyone. You want everyone else to bear that burden.

All kidding aside I would totally support the gov locking student loan rates between 3 and 5 percent. Not 0% but also not 7% or higher.
