Just want to play devils advocate since I don’t really care either way. But what’s your stance on child tax credits or child dependents as write offs?

Oof. This is not a legitimate point, and tax laws are passed by the legislature.

Is this where I point out we spend money on the biggest Navy in the world, yet other countries don't pay us protection? What's your stance on that? How about that road excise taxes are used for non-road items? It's just about as relevant.

They should've just continued to pay on loans this whole time it's been interest free.

What idiot would pay on an interest free loan when they dont have to?

Inflation has been got and the principal amount aint changed. The rational move is to not pay while you dont got to.

A family making about 100k a year with 3 children under 8 stood to have a negative tax burden as well as received $3400 in tax credits per kid in 2021.

What's terrifying about that picture, is that in most cases, this family is supported by 2 parents making $50k, and struggling to make it.

And they make too much money to receive any significant financial assistance. No phone service credit, no internet credit, no SNAP/etc., no medical benefits.
They'd probably be better off financially by quitting a job and dropping below the benefit limit.

The structure of student loans is what needs to change.

What do you think was done with the money? Anything rational?

We paid off other debts that had interest. Put additional money in savings to expand the house someday. Lived the same lifestyle.

So somebody did something rational.

All of this doesnt change the point on why pay more than the minimum ($0) on a zero-interest loan?

An idiot who wasn’t counting his chickens and would be 3 years closer to having his bill paid off.

denying relief to 40 million

They weren't attacked by debt. Debt is not a natural disaster. This is like 40 million people stabbing themselves in the face and demanding the government pay for plastic surgery.

Nowadays it's really easy to determine how a "journalist" feels about the topic they're writing on. I'd bet, this "journalist" was in favor of Biden's student load forgiveness. If not, he could've said "giving relief to 120 million people who will not be required to involuntarily pay off the student loan debt of 40 million debtors." The media is so transparent.

This is clearly why debt is so OOC.

99% of our media are petulant children, therefore, Progressives.

Of course this idiot supported having someone else pay off their loans. That idiot also hates the people that would have been on the hook for these payments too.

It’s like all those people who skipped out on paying rent during Covid, then freaked out when they got evicted,

I mean, seriously…did you really think that bill was never coming due? That the landlords were just gonna eat that?

Classic I got mine, frick you mentality. The system is the problem, blaming an entire generation of people who were told their entire lives they have to go to college regardless of expense is not a solution.

Classic right wing frick the common man response. Forgiving student loans allows all those people to spend more money pumping it back into the economy.

the whole power base in the Southern States depends on keeping people stupid and always have. Half the post on this site prove my point, and my family has been Southern GOP for over 100 years. Initially it was just fear of educating black people but over time we just decided that our best move was that the general population be as stupid and gullible as possible, which has served us well for 50 years or so now.

Worked like a charm on you, dumbass.

Student loan guidance and interest rates are passed by the legislature as well.
