Yea and we amended the constitution to make those things
Unlawful

Get the constitution amended to make praying at the 50 yard line illegal if you want it to be (good luck)

Because it is. The “disagreement” is unilateral in nature.

If anyone cares to read the seminal case law that will be germane and that Kennedy has to clear they are:

Garcetti et al. v. Ceballos 547 U.S. 410 (2006)

Pickering v. Board of Education 391 U.S. 563 (1968)

At its core, this is an Establishment Clause case.

We desperately need the religion called secularism to step aside and make room for all the other religions.

The secular agenda has been pushed hard for thirty years and look where that’s got us…

The idea of a non material universe should be at least as legitimate as the notion of a material universe, even in the public square.

We do not live in a pluralist society right now.

Promoting Heterosexuality as normal should actually be ok! It would be in a truly pluralist society. But no, right now if you’re pro hetero you’re a bigot.
Of course I can go on, but you all can fill in the blanks too.

Is that like how you people put societal pressure on people to kneel at the anthem, to put pronouns in your email, pressure corporations to be pedo friendly, etc?

Precisely what I said in the post above. Secularism, being the new national religion, leaves no room for others.

All religions are cults and religious belief is a widely accepted form of mental illness.

I don’t support the coach taking advantage of a state-sponsored function to promote a specific form of delusion. Anything other than a moment of silence is inappropriate.

I’ve never felt pressure to do any of those things. I have felt pressure to participate in prayer that I wasn’t comfortable doing more times than I can count.

That’s because there’s no pressure to do something you willingly do. This is also coming from the same guy that will talk about racial inequities in one post and about how much money he has in the next.

You’re literally watching you’re entire ideology being proved wrong in real time, all while moving further left of Mao. Your arrogance is extremely unfounded.

Riverbend Elementary School in West Monroe is in hot water over prayer in their classes right now. I remember when the government made my high school stop having prayer during homeroom every morning. Was surprised this was going on at a public school.

quote:

Louisiana elementary school stops daily student prayer after parent complaint
Scott Yoshonis
Monroe News-Star

A nationwide group advocating for the separation of church and state has set its sights on Ouachita Parish Schools. A parent complained about their child being forced to recite a daily prayer.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation said in a news release it sent a letter to the school board's attorney asking that Riverbend Elementary School in West Monroe cease its prayer immediately.

According to the foundation, the school has required its students to recite a prayer each day following the Pledge of Allegiance. A different child is reportedly selected every morning to deliver the Pledge and then the prayer over the intercom.

The foundation said in its release, which did not identify the parent who brought the case to its attention, that this case is "more egregious" because Riverbend Elementary School is hosting prayer in an elementary school during the school day when all students and employees are required to be present, as opposed to an event on school property.

"Sponsoring a religious message alienates non-Christian students, employees and families whose religious beliefs are inconsistent with the message being promoted, including the almost 30% of Americans who are nonreligious," the release read. "That’s why a public school must not broadcast a religious message to a captive student audience, or require students to read religious messages."

The letter, signed by the foundation's staff attorney Chris Line, said that the prayer is the same every day:

"Father God,

Come be with us today.

Fill our hearts with joy.

Fill our minds with learning.

Fill our classrooms with peace.

Fill our lessons with fun.

Fill our friendships with kindness.

Fill Riverbend Elementary with love.

Amen. "...

While that prayer from West Monroe is certainly pretty benign from a Christian perspective, it does seem to go against section 1 below. This is from Tim Keller:

quote:

In particular,
McClay and Williams argue:

1. that the State should be ‘procedurally secular’ – that is, it should be a kind of ‘’umpire”,
keeping the playing field level and open for all points of view, guarding the rights of free and
public speech of all, not privileging one religion over others, and allowing the democratically
chose public policies—whatever their more worldview basis—to be put into effect. But also,

2. that the state should not be ‘programmatically’ or ‘philosophically’ secular. That is, it should
not be imposing a secular worldview and marginalizing religious ones. It should not speak as
if (a) the secular views of expressive individualism and therapeutic identity—therefore of sex
and gender, or (b) the secular view that all human evil is produced by social structure, or by
evolutionary biology, or (c) the secular views of morality such as utilitarianism—are the only
legitimate, ‘scientific’ views. In short the state should not act as if secularism was NOT one
quasi-religious worldview among many. It should not tag anyone who disagrees with the
secular ‘takes’ on these things as ‘hate speech’.

And in some places you certainly would have coaches that think you are a rebellious bad teammate for non participation

It’s a trickier case in high school sports than I think given credit for by most posters
