Chicago police released a video showing what they say are a group of protesters wielding black umbrellas and shields pelting officers with projectiles.
"Frozen water bottles, cans, other projectiles. There were a number of police officers that were injured as a result of that," Lightfoot said. "That's not peaceful protest. That's anarchy. We are going to put that down. We're actively investigating and we will bring those people to justice."
Lightfoot also said she isn't happy with officers who may have mistreated protesters or reporters.
Chicago's statues of Columbus have become a heated controversy for Lightfoot, who has rejected calls to bring down monuments honoring Columbus.
She has also rejected calls to rename the Columbus Day holiday."

If you arent going to charge them with pummeling police officers with projectiles its effectively legal to do so

I'm seeing multiple people cheering the "anarchy" on and clapping. I also see several females that aren't in black with umbrellas throwing things.
What I don't see are the "peaceful protestors" intervening in the violence or departing from the violent part of the protest...Silence is violence as they say.

That is infuriating to watch. Zero reason there weren't forty officers in full riot gear on standby to go into the crowd and put an end to this.
THIS is why there are riot police. You don't leave uniformed officers with no equipment to stand there and get pelted. Uniform officers can stand the line while people peacefully protest but you have to be ready to handle things when it goes like it does here.

These protests I actually think screwed up big time this past weekend. The CPD was being mandated to stand down and then these morons went and poked the bear and in turn, got the shite beat out of them.
During the height of the riots and protests a few weeks ago, while the average citizen was upset with the riots, many here were still very in favor of the protests in general. And I will say, a great many here were civil.
However - this weekend changed that. I've said this a few times on here in other threads, but even the Chicago reddit - which is heavily liberal, is trashing these idiots. There's no defense with was this video showed.
I don't think the CPD is going to put up with much bullshite going forward. And they probably would have reluctantly stood down had this incident not happened.
I really think these morons doing this shite believe that most police departments will put up with their bullshite, like in Portland. And now they are learning that's not the case.
