Supersize is now large.

Most combos now come with medium or small fries, it used to be large.

But you can now order a basket of fries which is pretty large.

My favorite size mismatch to pricing per portion is Wendy’s Chili. Those cups are getting mighty small for the Large and small cup options. But at some locations, you can still order a family size for 10 dollars which is about half gallon to a full gallon of chili for 10 dollars. Meanwhile a large 12 ounce cup is about 4 dollars. You get 5-7 large orders chili from a family size.

He was a sensationalist who deceptively edited his “documentaries” to push a viewpoint even when it defied reality.

All documentaries are edited to a certain viewpoint. They all have a director and an editor. They all take a topic and whittle it down to fit into a viewable package. There is no objective documentary.

I’m not defending the guy, just pointing out that all
Documentaries aren’t what they say they are.

Try eating HFLC for a month and see what happens to your cholesterol. It will be in an ideal range.

Literally the exact opposite happened. You’ll lose weight on HFLC, but your heart and liver will take a beating.

This a-hole did a series called something like “30 days” to try and show what it would be like to do X for that period.

There was one on trying to live on a certain amount of money (minimum wage?) and he was told by people who had actually done it that you had to apply for food stamps, section 8, and all other kinds of government bennies. He intentionally blew all that off in order to film the story he wanted.

Michael Moore did similar with UAW stuff in Roger And Me where the UAW guys would get laid off then rehired within a short period, effectively giving them a vacation, yet he treated it like anyone getting laid off was immediately destitute.

Documentary isn’t necessarily fully 100% true but blatantly changing reality to get the story you want will get you called out.

The main difference is that Spurlock, Moore, and others have very loud supporters for their viewpoints while someone showing the opposite would get shouted down as a fraud even if it was 100% true.

I remember this article he did in Maxim maybe where he described the equipment to get and how to do your own documentary. It was informative but also kinda get rich quick scheme vibes.

There's a real documentary on it. It's a documenatary so, of course, they are pushing a message...

But it talked about how once you sign a contract with Tyson they can ruin your life. Making farmers spend all their money on equipment and then if they fight back, they get blacklisted so nobody buys their chickens.

It's probably an extreme case for them to use to prove big chicken is evil.

Spurlock later claimed that he was an alcoholic. He said he never made it through a week sober - including the time he spent making this film.

The movie was also a work of fiction. Spurlock claimed he put on 25 lbs in a month by consuming over 5000 calories a day all from eating only 3 McDonalds meals a day. Nutritional information from Micky Ds showed this was not possible, even if he supersized each and every meal.

I went to McDonald's website to see how much food one would have to consume on a daily basis to meet the 5000 calories.

Breakfast: Egg McMuffin, Sausage McMuffin, Hash browns, and a large sweet iced tea. Total Calories: 1010

Lunch: Buttermilk Crispy Chicken Sandwich, Large Fries, Artisan Grilled Chicken Sandwich, and a Large Dr. Pepper. Total Calories: 1760

Dinner: Filet-O-Fish, Big Mac, Large Fries, Large Coke, Fruit 'N Yogurt Parfait, and a Strawberry Sundae. Total Calories: 2160

Even after all this food, I'm still 70 calories short. It's been a while since I have seen Supersize Me but I don't remember Spurlock eating this much food in one sitting.

In hindsight, McDonalds should have sued.

Fast food makes you fat, and McDonald’s should never be considered a healthy place.

But a healthy dude in his younger 30’s can shake off what Spurlock did in Super Size Me without seeing any of those impacts - especially the blood work. Studies have tried to replicate what Spurlock did in a more formalized setting, and can’t do it.

Specifically, a younger persons blood work isn’t going to get jacked up by 30 days of McDonalds. The human body is super resilient up until the point that it isn’t, that’s why it’s important to be healthy - because it’s much (years) later that the penalties show up and it’s nearly impossible to fix by then.

We were watching a documentary showing a dude struggling with alcohol withdrawal, not McDonald’s overdose. And for his liver to be messed up from alcoholism at that age takes an obscene amount of alcohol.
