As an interesting aside, most of it was paid by DoD to practice techniques for wounded soldiers.

The DoD paid for it. To learn more about fixing extreme ballistic damage to the face.

Ill be honest. AT first seeing the pics in the op. I immediately wanted to laugh and make jokes. Then I clicked the link, wow that put a lot into perspective. That story really saddened me, but I am so glad she has been able to make such a good recovery. All things considered, doctors really did a great job.

Any info on how in the hell she survived the shooting? That catscan image looks like it split her head in two.

It's amazing how much of her face was missing and she survived. I just wonder what her quality of life is really like? They showed her out eating with the family but she has mostly been in the hospital since her failed attempt.

seriously.. THIS is why I am addicted to this website. That NG "article" is the most interesting item I have read/seen in August.

I doubt I'd have found it had I not been on TD/OT.

Thanks to the OP, and congrats to humanity, for turning a story of unimaginable despair into one of mind boggling medical achievement. Just wow!!
