It’s so damn good expensive. I was shocked when a 6 inch combo was like 10$

Their food is just flat out disgusting. How it’s managed to stay open this long is beyond me. Idk anyone that eats there. With all the options now a days, why go there? Jersey Mikes, Publix, firehouse all have subs 1000x better.

It was never great but when they ditched the five dollar footlong deal, it lost all reason for going.
I’m not paying $12 for a shitty sub.
Same here. It was sometimes a good stop on a road trip when you wanted something different and didn't have time for a sit down meal. The prices have just got too high for what it is though.

Aside from the decline in Subway’s quality over the years, I think the COVID shutdowns really did a number on walk-in / dine-in fast food business. I’ve noticed that drive-thru lines are still considerably longer, while there are still less people inside fast food places than pre-COVID.
If you are going to go inside anyway (whether to dine in or pick up) there are much better options with the added convenience of being able to call ahead for pick up orders. Especially for sandwiches.
I think we will see a lot of the fast food places without drive-thru windows continue to go under unless they’re in areas with heavy foot traffic.
ETA: Subway is also one of the most inconsistent fast food brands I can think of. The quality between really depends on the individual franchise owner and their staff. The difference between a “good” Subway and a “bad” Subway is massive.

They got over extended. Every town with 1200 people seemed to have a subway. I know of 4 around here in small rural towns that closed. Nobody was ever eating there

they had the MOST locations of all franchise fast food companies in the US for a long-time ... maybe even worldwide
wonder what that looks like now?
EDIT: definitely not worldwide, McDonalds dominates as expected

I haven't eaten there in years due to their pricing. It's lacking quality and it's like $8 for a half sub. No way

I used to eat Subway everyday for lunch during the business week up until a year ago. I ate it literally for 25 years. It was inexpensive, quick and not too filling. They have took a major downturn in quality. They changed the turkey and other things on the menu. Also, the clientele has become much much darker for some reason. Not complaining but wondering now what is the appeal for them. It was never like that before. Never.
I remember back in the 80’s Domino’s pizza was delicious. It was a great pizza in taste and price and I ate alot of it. Then in the 2000’s it took a downturn in taste. What makes these corporations sell out on the taste of their food? I find Domino’s disgusting now.

Jared is getting a free foot long every week in the joint……

I agree on dominos in the 80’s. Very great taste. Now it’s like cardboard. Same with the Wendys burgers. They were the bomb in the early days but not they are all dried up and much smaller.

Their quality has gone so far down that even Jared doesn't want to be associated with them anymore.

Pretty sure it’s more that a turkey and bacon footling costs like $15 these days

quote:I used to work at Subway and I always thought that was their biggest problem. The difference between employees at the same location can be massive, nevermind between stores. Especially if you have a new kid who's trying to figure out how to stuff double meat and every topping into a skinny piece of bread with a couple hours of training, at best. It's difficult to maintain consistency with made to order sandwiches between locations, sure, but Subway has never even really given it an effort as far as training.

All that was still forgivable when they were cheap but now a damned veggie delite is $10.

They horribly overexpanded in the past few decades.
To put it in perspective, their number of locations is #2 for all food service locations in the world between McDonald’s and Starbucks. Both of which are memed heavily for having locations everywhere including next to themselves.
Combine that with a number of other issues including more telecommuting and higher ingredient costs and you have a number of locations which cost more while getting less business. And Subway lends itself less to drive thru than McD or Starbucks.

The one next to me would just be closed at random ones with no warning and shut down.
