again. the rules have changed. that 20% plus any possible covid reimbursement is an incentive to label any death they can as being at least partially attributed to the virus.

if you're losing, say, 50% of revenue due to a shutdown you'll do everything you can to keep that 'free' 20% plus whatever extra you can get per case.

there are stories all over showing people dying of other causes but testing positive for covid in one way or another being labeled covid deaths in just the right way that the subsidies kick in.

the onus of proof should be on YOU people that want to destroy our entire way of life over this whole thing.

also: I have no pity on the hospitals, they fricked themselves lobbying for certificate of need legislation. there would be more beds available if you didnt have to beg your competitors for approval to open new medical centers. gotta restrict supply so demand pumps revenue.

Bruh are you seriously out here arguing that we should live in fear for years because there's a highly trasnsmittable flu strain going around?

i never argued we should live in fear

i said people should take some personal responsibility, especially if the requirements/costs are low

what i did say is that if people continue to act selfishly and ignore their personal responsibility, the government WILL shut us down over and over. THAT is what i don't want

that would be devastating

America being more self sufficient and less reliant on others would be devastating? Explain.

at the economic projections across the board. i think most European countries are predicting a 5-8% GDP decrease (and that's on the back of government borrowing to keep things going). and we haven't even seen this start to really ravage poor countries. it will take a long time for them to get this under control and for the more developed world to even get accurate data.

Again. The virus is not doing that. The government reaction is doing that.

Do you understand the difference?

It's not that we don't have the ability to restart the economy. It's that we are actively fighting against our ability to do so.

You consider a global depression and destruction of small business coupled with hyper inflation and years worth of educational setbacks a minor inconvenience?

I do. The stats for implementing of PPE in the workplace is much more convincing than any argument you can make for the shutdowns of the world economy due to COVID.

And my correlation is the same. Many here know if you don't do what the government tells you to do on a job site and take their mandated precautions, they will shutter that site/plant with the quickness.

Even is there is no "danger".

Swine also sent hundreds of thousands of people to the hospital in a 6-month period. It stressed the system but there was never an "OMG WE'RE OVERWHELMED" response. The true difference was the type and how much easier it was to find a vaccine. We had already dealt with the H1N1 strain before and new how to handle it.

I've never advocated for doing nothing. From Day 1 back in March once we had closed system data from places like the cruise ships and SK which closed quickly and tested almost everyone, I was saying we needed to just take steps to protect those over 65. That's all we had to do. Tell everyone else to wash hands more often and stay home when sick. No shutdown was necessary. People just need to take personal responsibility when it comes to the older crowd. And those people are honestly the worst at doing what they should. That's on them. And I don't blame them. Who wants to be alone at that age? They don't do technology well... facetime, etc. And the negative affect on social distancing is very real. Suicides and ODs are WAY up. EBR parish is on pace to double last year's totals which were already high historically.

Sigh.

There is demonstrable danger on job sites based on decades of data.

the costs would be enormous

the whole point of the global economy is to lower costs. protectionism by definition requires barriers that increase them

we will have to pay more for goods while earning the same (or possibly less), with less stable employment and all the other bells an whistles

if this is all boogeymen why are states, who previously stayed open, now closing? Hard, Republican, Trump-supporting governments are pulling hard 180s. why? their whole argument for staying open previously was to keep their economies going. so why are they changing so drastically if there is nothing to fear?

there is demonstrable danger of CV-19 (to our entire population, not individually) but people are fighting the data in this thread

But, danger is subjective if it hasn't happened to me. I've never had a bolt hit my head from high above or fell because I wasn't tied off.

That’s what everyone has always been saying. We don’t need to shut shite down, we need positive people and at risk people to stay the frick home.

This mom and daughter acted like royal assholes. And the fact that she is a nurse makes this even more idiotic.

i will fully admit the media has overblown things in 2020 and covered for Obama during h1n1

that still doesn't make h1n1 comparable to CV-19

just like earlier in the thread where i'd say we could cut our deaths in half and it's still pretty much the worst virus we've had to deal with since the Spanish flu
