yea everyone is different but it doesnt take much to know what you can and cant eat to be a certain weight. it just comes down to wanting to do it. someone can want to pass biochem with an A all they want but they just dont have the brain power to do it.

By that same token, you can still have some measure of success losing weight if you work hard.

If it's not important to you then feel sorry for yourself and be obese. If you care about it you just have to bust your butt. It's not fair but life's not fair.

Someone with Melissa McCarthy's body type will NEVER look like Taylor Swift no matter how much she tries. But she could get down to a respectable weight if she chose to.

I'm a skinny rail. All my life I wanted to be muscular but it's just not in the cards. I can get cut but I'll never look like the Rock. Everyone has their own things to deal with.

Exactly. It was very hard to stay focued on eating clean at first, but now, it's 2nd nature. I still allow a cheat day but even that is becoming a rarity. My biggest hurdles are trying to stay committed when I go out to eat with clients and resisting the urge to grab something quick that is bad for me when I am in a time crunch.

well.....at first it was a big adjustment for most but now most are on board except the guy i mentioned above who has been here like 20 years.

But I still allow them to go once a week or so normally but if we are super busy and raking in the profit, well they can go everyday again. But I will be damned if my jobs are the ones eating the cost and I am having to explain to corporate why I have all kinds of entertainment charges when I didn't have the budget for it.

Honestly though to be truthful I have it in the budget most of the time, I just use it as an excuse to bring my own lunch and be healthier. and honestly I am the biggest a-hole, so I enjoy it pissing them off with the money and the health reasons. I find it amusing and comical that people feel its their right to have lunch paid for or any other fringe benefit that's not official. So its gotten to the point where it is almost a game for me, I tell them no and they keep begging. Once every week or two weeks I say yes.

I am hoping it eventually makes people appreciate what they have, but so far no dice.

if you say no to sweets, people take that shite PERSONALLY

part of it is that so many of our celebrations have sweets related to them in some way, and part of it seems to be a "oh you think you're better than me?" response

People are embarrassed when you turn down bad food because they immediately think you are judging them for eating the food.

I was struggling the other day because I went to lunch with a friend (mid-40s and thicker in thighs/arse/etc. like many 40-somethings are). I don't let myself cheat during the work week, but she chose Schlittz because she wanted a cheap quick lunch. This place technically has a menu, but nobody orders from it. They sell pizza by the slice to probably 95% of their patrons. I'd have felt like such a self-righteous jerk for ordering and waiting on a special made-to-order salad when she was thinking we'd just grab a slice from behind the glass. So I got a slice of pizza.

It shouldn't be like that! I shouldn't have to feel guilty for eating HEALTHY because someone else takes it personally.

People with their sweets can frick right off though. I hate desserts and have for years. I sure as hell am not using my "cheat" calories on something I don't even like.

Yeah I love people that hit you with the "come on man one-time won't hurt" line. I usually respond by saying "Man, I'm gaining weight by just being too close to what you are eating."

people at the office are the worst about it. I get you made some cookies for everyone but I just ate. My office always has the birthday celebrations right after lunch or at 9am. So I am never hungry for it. I feel like such a drag because I end up turning it down

Then when you say you don't want it and some lady says "oh you are so good I need you self control". no bitch I just ate.

and the people who have the natural ability, discount that ability and think everyone has it just like them or "close enough".

They will eat a large pizza and not gain weight and think that if someone does gain weight they must be eating 2+ large pizzas.....because "I eat one and don't gain weight, they must eat more than one. fatties have no control"

It's the perspective of "it's not hard", "I'll I do is _____ ...and have no issues"....so you must be doing way more if you are having problems.

Yeah, I don't miss having coworkers for that reason

The worst is when it was my birthday and they could not grasp that I didn't want a cake. My old office ordered $70 cakes for people on their birthdays. They all knew I did not like sweets, so I hoped they'd offer to just cover my $9 lunch or something. But nope. It was about the fact that THEY wanted cake and wanted an excuse to have it.

I told them to just get whatever they like when they kept bothering me about flavor. They went to WalMart the day of and got some cheap cake. I was the only person to not bring my birthday cake home.

so what about me? I used to have a bad arse metabolism before I started having hormone problems. Now i have to be extremely careful.

For example I pigged out on friday. I ate a boudan kolshe for breakfast, a triple cheeseburger with fries for lunch and fajitas for dinner. I literally gained 12 pounds from Friday morning until bed friday night. Granted much of that was water weight due to glycogen supersaturation, but the point stands.

So....guess what I did saturday and sunday? I was extremely diligent about what I ate and did cardio twice both days making sure my calories for friday, saturday and sunday added up to less than what I burned over those 3 days.

Guess what magic happened this morning......I weighed less that I did friday morning.

And I am not an obese guy who can eat massive amounts and still lose weight. I weighed in at 190 this morning at 11.49% BF.

CPTBENGAL likes to say you have to treat your diet like a credit card, you can charge(eat) what you want, but eventually you have to pay for it(burn through exercise or diet deficit).

Its a pretty simple concept over the course of a day, week, month, year....burn more than you consume and you will lose weight. It work every single time. What you eat will determine how fast and what kind of weight you will be losing.

Exactly.

It's so weird because to me, the office is the easiest place to eat healthy. At home/on weekends, I am tempted by alcohol and going out with friends and ordering out. But at work, I only have access to what I bring with me. So easy enough -- just bring something healthy. Then my only choice is to eat that healthy item or fighting downtown parking to try and order out, which screw that.

The way people in the office freak out over food being brought in, you'd think they must eat salads every meal. But they don't!

one great thing when my work slows (or i have control of my schedule more) is that i cook my own food all the time

like today i cooked chicken and had my plate of veg

i cooked this weekend, too, except friday night when i got wings (i made my own last night)

Happened to me last year so this year I pulled an Andy dufrense and had the office manager order cake just to watch them eat. Mainly because I knew the GF would want desert later and I can't fight that one.

I'm watching The Lead with Jake Tapper on CNN right now and they just showed a preview for the episode...a story about this exact study will be featured.

the fat person is someone who has never taken a chemistry class until switching majors. Is struggling, gets a tutor and crams for a test. They end up passing but do not retain any knowledge. End up forgetting 90% of the stuff they learned over Christmas break while they drink and eat themselves stupid again.

I think we're having two slightly different conversations. You're talking fitness, I'm talking natural body types.

Fit or not, some have a natural predisposition to managing weight better than others. I eat horribly at the moment but I'm still a skinny rail with a little pot belly. I have to really eat horribly to weigh more than 150 lbs. I had a roommate that ate similarly and he was close to 300 lbs.

I think the first part of managing your weight is realizing that everyone's body is different and some need to simply do more to achieve the results they want. Having a shitty body type doesn't give someone a pass for being out of shape. But I think it's fair to recognize that some have it easier than others.

This is spot on. I read recently, "Why we get Fat" by Gary Taubs (sp) and it explains this concept perfectly.

Not a bad read if you have the time.

There is no natural body type that was studied in the article or that would go on the biggest loser.

Too many pages to read through right now but Layne Norton discusses this idea of metabolic damage ad nauseam. When you diet too hard for too long and do not slowly reduce calories, it can do damage to your body. Many fitness competitors and bodybuilders who do crash diets can see drastic amounts of weight gain after a competition because of metabolic damage.

That line is the worst.

A few weeks ago, I was eating out at a good texmex place with my SO and her sister and her SO. Both my SO and her sister were egging me on to try out all of their various foods that I did not want, so I kept refusing. It happened enough that the sister's SO said "wow, guys, the guy doesn't want to eat any of that so let him do him, damn!"

"One bite won't hurt" It absolutely will; if I enjoy it, I will want it much more after I taste it

ding ding ding ding ding

If people thought about food like $$$=calories counting down from $100 everyday it would be extremely simple.
