Unless you’ve given birth, zip it. I’m white and there are some huge a-hole white doctors out there so I can believe it.

well, sounds like the smart move would be for pregnant black women should only go to black OBI’s. ...

Ok, so black folks need to chose black doctors then.

The fact that there is even a study on this is comical

Why is this study necessary?

Well...seeing as how most NICU doctors are white or from European countries....

...and that on a per capita basis most NICU babies are minorities...well, there you go.

Maybe if those moms did not smoke, drink, do drugs, eat healthy, get regular checkups, etc, etc etc...

Those doctors are fighting regardless of race.

Also - I have seen black kids in an NICU that never once had a family member visit - not one fricking visit. White families camp out (pre covid) to keep an eye on their family member - the child can feel that love - change my mind.

black doctors delivering babies

Can’t be too many of them out there. This will lead to blacks not having to go thru medical school to get licensed. They will get to go to votech to get a medical license while all others will have to earn theirs the traditional way

Yep more white people bad bullshite. Probably the untold/hidden story is the blacks being cared for by the racist white Doctors was that They were dealing with problem pregnancies. Data and Science can be manipulated.

Is it because more high risk births are handled by white doctors?

Was that variable accounted for in that "study"?

It will probably quietly come out later that the high risk pregnancies were sent to the best doctors - mostly white - while the lower risk stayed with their black doctors through delivery.

this seems like an example of Simpson’s Paradox

Eh, I don't know. I haven't read the study in depth either but it was peer reviewed research and Simpson's paradox is stat 101. Someone somewhere would have caught that.

Haven’t read the study, but there was a reference to the fact that just 5% of doctors are African American, and we’re talking about 1. a portion of the population with higher childbirth mortality and 2. an event that happens in 6 out of 1000 overall. If you take such a small slice of the pie (black deliveries by black doctors) and compare them to a much bigger slice (black deliveries by white doctors) you would EXPECT Simpson’s Paradox to show up. There was no mention at all of this being accounted for when it certainly should (at least in the USA Today article). There’s no getting around that statistical problem being inherent in the study.

Not only that, many “peer reviewed” studies seem to be a little too “on the nose” here lately as far as narratives go.

There should have been some mention of psychology of the mother - which there was none - and perhaps a positive effect of giving birth under the care of someone who looks like you. We’ve seen effects of how the lockdown for COVID has actually had a positive effect on childbirth overall. A theory is that it is due to being at home and around family more leading to less stress on the mothers.

There were no alternate explanations aside from structural racism, but it did say that any explanation must be “disturbing.”

Again, perhaps the study mentioned all of these but USA Today decided to omit them.
