It’s about consolidation of wealth and power. They propagandize that the ICE is the new buggy whip. If manufacture, operation, maintenance and disposal of Model T’s had required multiple buggy whips it might make sense.

dk if this study is 100% accurate but EV’s cost just as much if not more and definitely takes up more of your time.
My cousin owns a Tesla, and you can’t get him to shut up about it. I hear all of the “I don’t have to stop for gas” blah blah blah. Said cousin also needs to get his Tesla serviced, and since he lives in Bham, these are his options, Atlanta, Nashville, Pensacola. Imo, the whole saving time argument is nonsense. You’re talking a minimum of 5 or 6 hours round trip travel time just for service. God forbid it breaks down and you need to get that shite towed to Atlanta.

It would make sense that what they’re claiming is the massive subsidies going to the charging infrastructure are not accounted for.
A gas station builds with a dozen pumps that cost $30k each they will charge enough to recoup their capital outlay to build the station. At the same time the feds are doling out cash to install chargers so charging station operators aren’t passing along the full cost to consumers. Capacity to generate revenue is much lower too due to the time it takes to charge one car vs fill with gas.

I think the “it’s cheaper than gas” argument died a while back. At this point it needs to about the best way to transition away from fossil fuels to electric.

In that situation Tesla will come to you

Drove an ev recently with 320 mile range.
Got to an area where I had to charge up or else get stranded due to lack of charging stations on next 200 miles.
Charged for 15 minutes and got half battery which cost $20.
That’s roughly 14 cents a mile
Cost per mile isn’t the issue.
It’s the loud road noise.
The horrible ride. The questionable build quality.
The lengthy recharges even at fast chargers.
The obnoxious gizmo crap.
The mapping of charging stations for long trips.
I would not own one today.
Just my take...but, while EVs have been around for over 100 years, the modern EV is still in its infancy. The EVs we have now will evolve just like the ICE cars have.
Imagine people in the early 1900s saying...sure, your automobile provides some advantages over my horse...but I can stop and get my horse something to eat anywhere...where are you going to fuel your automobile? (There were only 15,000 gas stations across the US in 1920 for 7.5 million automobiles in the US at that time...there are 130,000 charging stations for 3.3 Million EVs in the US in 2023). The Vehicles got better...the infrastructure evolved/improved, and it became much more practical to drive automobiles than ride horses.
As for the cobalt...there are new batteries being developed that are successfully replacing cobalt with Nickel...guess where we can find Nickle mines (3 of the 10 largest nickel mines in the world are in the Philippines and Canada).
So...it isn't practical right now to wholesale switch from ICE to EV...but as the technology evolves, the practicality will evolve as well.

Ev cars remind me a lot of gay marriage. 12 years ago everyone was against gay marriage, even democrat politicians. But nowadays everybody is gay married

It's a moving target wrt costs. Manufacturers are switching to batteries that hold a charge longer and charge faster, but are heavier. Don't know what the replacement cost is, whether or not there's a disposal/recycling fee and the costs involved in maintaining battery heating and cooling systems.

Thid is it in a nutshell. Think of it as your toddler. You don't get rid of it because it is only as good as it is today

quote:Cool, but why did you move the goalposts and change the subject? I assume you're conceding I was correct that I take less time to charge than you do to get gas, and that is why you decided to then argue something entirely different because the actual topic you responded to didn't fit your narrative?
Let’s do a 400 mile drive. You can take your EV And I’ll take my truck. Who will spend more time refueling?
But again, I'll repeat a fact. You spend more actual time in your life getting gas than I do charging. You can get mad about that, but it's so, you just have to learn to deal with it.

i'll just repeat. You spend more of your actual time getting gas in a year than I spend in actual time it takes out of my life to charge my EV.

My Model S goes 0-60 in 3.1 seconds and holds my entire family while being safe, good in bad weather, and never having to be around trashy people at gas stations. I just really like my EV for daily driving, don't care about efficiency compared to ICE vehicles because I'm not poor.
