I left in 1988... Just returned last year. I was very bitter for years that Louisiana let many like me down. The economy was bad.
I loved living in Texas. My kids still live there as it is their home. The wife and I moved back simply because La is home for us.

Forgivable loan after 4 years of Louisiana state income tax returns are filed. Otherwise, you pay back the loan like everyone else.

I’ll also add that while I can’t speak for all of the state, it seems like everyone I know who left the NOLA metro after college has for the most part returned home after a few years.

the point is you don't HAVE TO take TOPS money... if you want the freedom of choice after college, simply don't take the TOPS money, pay your own way... no one is forcing you to take it... but the point is, if you do, then there should be stipulations, period, end of story...

They have to be better than Mississippi, all youth is fleeing the state college education or not. Bama has huntsville, mobile etc so probably ok

And this is coming from a former underachieving West Monroe High School student. I'm doing fine now, but I probably didn't deserve to have my education paid for by the state. I lived at home and had an additional scholarship from Tech, that I'm sure was subsidized by the taxpayers. Basically totaled up to a free degree.
The investment from the state wasn't worth it because I'll never move back.

How much money was spent on a study that tells us the same thing we’ve been saying for 20 years? Those are all the reasons we left and all of the Louisiana friends we made here. The Brain Drain in Louisiana has accelerated over the last generation. The sad thing is that people in Louisiana have no idea how poorly they are serviced by the state until they leave and experience a better quality of life.

From what I hear y'all talk about forever, aren't "studies" a big chunk of your "economic" activity in the state? An outsider would conclude y'all just naturally study things a lot, that and run into each other on the highway and sue.

Louisiana studies the crap out of things and rarely actually do anything in under 10 years. One of the biggest shocks I had when we moved to Texas was how quickly things got approved and completed. That and the well built, litter free roads.

From Bunkie to Baton Rouge to Lafayette to Texas and I'll never go back.
The sheer quality of life improvement and career opportunities just across the state line make me not even consider Louisiana an option to live and raise kids.

People in Louisiana are very stubborn. The folks I know say they know for a fact LA is where they want to be etc. etc.
The thing is, none of them have ever left for longer than a week bender in Florida.
Its very entertaining when this conversation starts. Literally none have left but ALL know this is the best place for them and their kids.
Mind blowing really.

Considering retiring, soon, and while it is somewhat attractive to move back close to family and friends from LA, my wife is from Utah and her parents have offered her land where this is the back of the property:
Of course, winters can be a real bitch, too. But we also like to ski, and Park City is just on the other side of the mountain range, so, it balances out.
