I was a little quick, since the NHC hasn't upgraded yet.

Getting up to TS strength quickly was expected though as it got out over water.

Last week there was talk of a decent amount of sheer once in the heart of the gulf. Is that gone now?

Are the pumps in Nola working? At least there is great leadership with LaToya in charge.

Pump operators are considered non-essential. They will get reinstated during phase 5.

takeaways from Levi's video from last night...

so the big thing to watch over the next day or 2 is if this storm makes landfall in southern Mexico

if it does... it could completely dissipate and then later in the week a brand new storm could form (would that be the 'D' storm, Dolly? or a reborn Cristobal?) and make its way northward but with not much time to really get its act together

if it doesn't... a stronger (potential hurricane?) Cristobal could be headed towards the northern Gulf coast

by the way... your meteorological word of the day is 'gyre'

let's say it all together now... gyre

There will be shear as the system moves north into the weekend. Right now it's more about the land interaction.

It's June with a complicated set up. We're talking slow intensification to maybe midrange TS over the next couple of days.

The eye of potential-Cristobal is currently caught in the northern portion of a larger, Central American gyre, which is pulling it west and south.

When it escapes the grips of this gyre will determine if we're fricked on the Gulf coast
