We were at my in-laws and apparently their new house is built like a brick shithouse. It was loud but not frighteningly loud except when shite hit the roof. My kids didn’t see what the big deal was about until they went outside on Monday

That little dodge to the east certainly helped the folks in Thibodaux, but still pretty bad there.

Some of those areas, Houma, Lockport, Raceland got raked for hours. With the path and slowdown some people got nothing but eyewall, and with a storm with an inner and outer eyewall like that, it meant certain places never got in the eye at all. I know Raceland did, but Houma I don't think saw much of it at all.

I haven’t had much internet access or time lately, but have there been any pictures or videos from the eye posted??
Also, duke thanks for everything man. Weather (
) or not you want us to, I lean heavily on your knowledge and a few other sources to make decisions for this shite and I can’t tell you how much that helps.

Baw, what, bawwwww? Houma had the western eye wall parked on it for 4-5 hours. Go look on social media, it got wrecked. Looks like a war zone over there. I'm heading over there in a day or two, I'll get a bunch of pics of down da Bayou.

I didn't say it didn't get wrecked.
My entire post was about how it got wrecked. I don't have to look on social media, I'm looking at the aerial/satellite photos compiled by NOAA. Much of the damage looks more like tornado damage.
Trees different ways than the prevailing winds. Debris fields from houses and structures within sight of each other going in different directions. Homes of similar age and build left standing with others beside them gone. Wooded areas where trees are not laid over with the direction of the prevailing winds, but like pickup sticks.
I've got saved radar loops that show clear mesovortices in the eyewall. There's satellite imagery that shows mesovortices in the eyewall. Those are like tornadoes. They do tornado-like damage. It doesn't diminish the damage, but it is distinguishable from normal eyewall winds.
ETA: You read my post wrong. I said Houma never got in the eye, or only briefly if they did, but stayed in the eyewall(s) the entire time.

Saw a bunch of people cutting grass today after they had cleaned up. None fricks given. Thought it was hilarious
After I picked up all the big limbs from the pecan trees in the yard, I set the mower to 4” with the bagger and I “cut grass” on Monday. To hell with picking up/raking all that. Put it in lawn in leaf bags. Made another pass later in the day. Trees might still be “wind whipped” and die next month…who knows.

In 20 years they’re gonna be on TD and saying “I remember going through Ida as a kid…” Haha

I’m driving in today and will have my house in Metairie powered up by generator. Do y’all know if I will have AT&T Wi-Fi?

We were on the eastern side of the second eye wall or whatever local channels were calling it but that wind and the sound it made was next level especially at night. Hurricane Katrina was a day time storm and we were in a solid brick structure with no trees around and I was never afraid for my family, that wasn’t the case Sunday night. That little eastern jog it made while on land made a huge difference for the north shore and I’m pretty sure I scared my 8 year old son for life because we were here.
THIS is why I chose to leave at the last minute. I’m sorry y’all had to suffer through that.

Looks like a little power trickling in to NOLA East per Entergy
According to a news release, Entergy crews were able to turn power on for some customers in Eastern New Orleans with generation supplied by the New Orleans Power Station. Officials said this is the first step in bringing power back to the metro region, after Hurricane Ida left devastating destruction in its path.

After Rita my neighbors house took a good bit of damage and they were displaced. My place wasn’t too bad. I picked up his yard and mowed several times for them as they had their hands full. Later he said how much they appreciated pulling up and seeing a nice yard. Sometimes the little things go a long way in raising spirits.
