Those two are loosely correlated, but it’s only weaker on a relative basis. Not likely to be a weak storm at this point.

Good time to remind folks the cone takes the center predictions at each interval and draws a circle around them that would encompass 68% of misses at each interval in the last 5 years.
A) it’s now flawless, but it’s pretty damn good
B) it’s not storm specific - in other words, if the storm track has a high confidence, the cone doesn’t shrink. If the confidence is very low, the cone doesn’t widen.
C) the NHC is substantially better at track guidance than they are at intensity forecasting. It’s better than nothing, but keep that in mind.
