People should learn to take Duke extremely seriously when it comes to hurricane threads. He has absolutely nailed this thing since the beginning of the week, well before any weather services were making this a thing. He also warned very early about the strength of it.
Then when the TD experts were laughing last night because it was still showing a Cat 2, he tried to warn people that it was strengthening.
I've never seen Duke wishcast a storm, so I figured when he was concerned about this one that it would be a big deal. 99% of my hurricane info came from this very thread.
To Duke
P.S - RDS is also great.

I live in Cut Off and am expecting to be homeless in the next few hours. For years it seemed like we were bullet proof having had close misses year in and year out. It looks like it’s actually gonna be our turn this time.
We’ve talked for years about having the best levee system in the world. It’s about to get pushed to the limit. In Windell Curole we trust!

If it’s indeed at a 2, it will be the worst BR has EVER had.
I stayed through Gustav. It was scary. The tornadoes will also be in full force. It was not even. 1 with sustained winds at 61 and 90 gusts at the airport.
With the wet soil, I fear the tree situation could be dire.

This WWL anchor wants it go go east so bad. Every time he gets a chance he mentions it.

Stayed at 150. 933 pressure though.
That’s crazy. They definitely found a 157+ in the last recon. Guess they don’t want to have mass panic.
Reposting from before.. this is not a complete list, but this is a good plaice to start.
1) Charge your phones & tablets & batteries
2) Fill the Bath Tub with Water
(use it to flush toilet when water is turned off)
3) Find an axe.
(if you flood, you might need it to break the roof open to escape)
4) Make a Safe Room
(no windows if possible)
(put mattresses in front of windows)
5) Do not run a generator in your house or garage
(the Carbon Monoxide can kill you)
6) Fill up plastic cups with water and put them into the freezer.. or use jugs or just something..
(can use to keep food cold longer once the power goes out)
7) Put candles and flashlights and all stuff you might need in the safe room
8) Stay away from large trees outside
(they might fall on the house)
9) Remove all stuff from outside and move it into your house or garage. Chairs, Tables, anything can become a projectile. If you have a trampoline, take it down.
10) Drain your pool to 1/3 full
(don’t empty it or it might pop out of the ground)

Probably. Not to scare that baw but you can’t definitively say anyone south of highway 90 is going to survive a direct impact.

Leaving Baton Rouge is a case by case basis based on trees. If there’s no tree threat you’re safe in a home structure in Baton Rouge. There’s no need to create a last minute panic mass evac of Baton Rouge.
I hope you’re right. We’re riding it out.

I deleted that. I don’t want to give anyone bad advice based on what they are doing. I’ve been baffled by why they aren’t here. If interstates are clear, then go

Here in lockport. I've never left before. I'm definitely regretting my decision right now. Say some prayers for me. We are getting scared. All preps made- shutter, generator, ice, water, etc... It's not gonna be good here.
Is it too late for you to get out? Please consider it if it's at all possible.

Trying, but I'm afraid this will be life altering for us and this area. The pressure is still dropping and the storm is still intensifying. I made a mistake. Have to hunker down and hope for the best now.

Do you have an attic? Be careful of the floodwater and storm surge.
Most importantly!!!!
Put a chainsaw (that runs) and an axe in the attic where you can find it in the dark.

Assuming the path holds true. You really only need to get to about Slidell LA to be "safe", just stay on high ground.
Hope you're right... because that's where my folks are ATM.

latest update says 150 mph right now..
but 155 mph 12 hours from now..
that puts Cat 4/5 winds pretty far onshore?
