Yeah she said it made her never want to evacuate again. Im texting with her now, with the news of the strengthening overnight, and she now realizes how good a move it was to leave. Tried to get her up to Little Rock but a beach trip was more appealing.

This seems bogus. Either way, you don’t have to get to Houston. The point is the getting out, not the destination once you’re out. Get to Jennings and find a nice parking lot to stay in or something while you figure out where you are going to land.

Checking in from Reserve…. We are as prepared as we can be. There will be lots of surprised family members when they wake to see that this thing is almost a Cat 5! Terrifying!

Assuming the path holds true. You really only need to get to about Slidell LA to be "safe", just stay on high ground.

In addition to the in-situ obs being provided by @53rdWRS & @NOAA_HurrHunter, we also got a AMSR2 microwave pass earlier this morning over #Ida that shows a near-textbook inner-core structure. Outside of core is a bit less symmetric, w/ more rainbands focused SE of the eyewall.

Awful and dangerous advice.
You must mean Houston, Europe, right?
Houston. Minnesota anyway.

55N. I would start checking places like Fairaday or Natchez for lodging and other out of the way towns.

Sent the fam away yesterday. No trees, expecting electricity to be out for a while. But our neighborhood did flood back in May.

Hopefully with it going in west of Grand isle, NO, Lake Ponchatrain, and Rigolets/Miss coast are save some of the storm surge.

Mandeville here. I can either drive I-49 towards Meridian or straight up 55. Or my brother has a house in Hammond with no trees and no flood risk. What's my play here?
Go north. Rooms still available in Jackson and Vicksburg according to a quick search on the Hilton app.

Hourly updates should be within a few minutes

Wrong side of the storm, doing to be a rainy beach trip until this thing clears out. Oh well.

Chill in Hammond, unless there is a massive last second change in direction you'll be safe. 40-50mph sustained winds isn't gonna do that much. I'm in denham, were expecting 60-70mph sustained winds which is a big difference.

Leaving Baton Rouge is a case by case basis based on trees.
YES! I cut down a giant POS Water Oak last summer. I wouldn't have stayed if that tree was still here.
Only big one close is a gum tree.
