My biggest worry right now in BR/Prairieville is if this uncontrolled strengthening is going to push potential wind speeds to a point where they might blow roofs off
What is that wind speed in general? Anyone know? What speed blows roofs off? What speed causes structural issues to brick houses?

You're still 12 hours out of knowing. Tell these guys to just go

Did TWC call it a night? All of there projections are wrong and not updated. How does a channel specifically focused on weather shut it down when something this catastrophic is about to take place? What a bunch of sorry mfers.

Leave. You are going to be without power for probably awhile. Just go

I think when they signed off earlier, they said they'd be back at 6a Central??

Not good. We need a plane in there getting recon data asap.

Would it be too late to leave in the morning if we decide that?
There's buoys in the NE quadrant 80+ miles from the eye registering 50+ mph gusts.
You might have 6 maybe 7 hours to make that decision

Katrina was a different beast however and main thing was levee broke which made it 10x worse.
Agree. If the levees don’t break, things are different for NOLA. The fear was the levees being overtopped with Katrina’s record storm surge. The levees breaking wasn’t really brought up when the storm surge was bearing down.

Here's my blanket advice. If you are thinking about leaving, just do it and do it soon. There are going to be a lot of people waking up in a couple of hours thinking of doing the same thing. They won't have time between the storm and traffic delays to realistically get out.
If you leave right now though, you'll probably have a light traffic drive to where you are going.

Ida's going to be pushing a lot of water, but yeah, hard to beat Katrina's surge.
The thing is, the way the wind is going to work, NOLA looks to be well protected from the levees. Katrina pushed a bunch of water into the lake and then pushed it south at the city. This is going to be coming from the SE.
Which is why I worry about south end of the levee system a lot more in this case.
Thanks for the reply.
I’ve always wondered why cities like New Orleans and Houston, and others don’t come up with a system to empty the lakes & bays, etc. right before a storm. It is going to fill back up.. so why not just help out the flooding a little bit.

I've been partying 4 days at the camp for my birthday, and I overslept.
Is it too late to leave grand isle?

I mean they didn’t cancel a Saints preseason game on Saturday until Friday. Hard to fathom how it took so long to cancel the game. It’s a small thing but it is a signal to the city how serious this is and should have happened Thursday at the latest.
100%. It is symbolic. So is not opening the contra-flow.

No it’s not. Settle down.
Who took the brunt of Katrina?
Media loved NOLA but Mississsippi got wiped off the face of the earth without a single mention

I'm not from Louisiana, but my daughter is in Carville with her NG Unit.
I am a little more than concerned and I know nothing about hurricanes. Any idea on what Carville could experience w this hurricane?
