Take 25 to la 16, take 16 to us 51. Us 51 to McComb get on us 98 and follow that all the way to Natchez. Unless 55 isn't too bad tomorrow, then 55 to McComb and us 98 to Natchez.

My in-laws are in Houma and as of today have decided to stay. Are most people there staying or leaving?

Like many in New Orleans, they're basically hoping it takes a little jog here and there and it misses them. It's stupid but that's what they're doing.

I would argue Nola and houma are in fairly different situations with this storm.

This happens when you haven't been hit by a modern hurricane, or even a legit hurricane, in over 30 years.

Agree…I’m almost certain they will wake up in the morning and change their mind.

If you're not worried about flooding, I'm taking Nola over Houma/Thib

I decided to bitch out. I'm leaving Metairie now. Traffic not too bad. Expect I can come back Tuesday if not for sure Wednesday. Hospital activating it seems so everyone there is staying.

Kinda thinking if a neighbor doesn’t help her I’ll drive over tomorrow morning.
Shitty situation for them. They’ll make a decision tomorrow to leave as well.

Gustav was 2008

quote:

Disrupted by mountains once again, Gustav never regained its former strength. Briefly traveling over a warm eddy of the Gulf Stream's loop current it encountered moderate wind shear and cooling sea surface temperatures. Fluctuations in its internal structure and visible appearance did not counter the storm's general weakening trend, and Hurricane Gustav made its final landfall as a Category 2 hurricane near Cocodrie, Louisiana on September 1. Moving inland, the storm quickly weakened but persisted as a significant tropical depression until it was adsorbed by a frontal boundary on September 5.

Ida is a different animal.

For folks wanting a good, basic breakdown of why Ida is expected to blow up, Brian Kahn posted a good write up with Kim Wood chiming in, as well.

ETA: Dr. Kim Wood is a good Twitter follow.

Between this storm and Afghanistan I’m going to have to break down and get back on Twitter. If you have any others you like to follow and have time to post them, I’d appreciate it. I’m trying to catch up from earlier today so SIAP.
