NWS New Orleans
We’re still going to host a football game at noon tomorrow. This City is ignorant at best.

I've been noting the updates all day.
7am - 20.3N 81.7W 60mph
10a - 20.7N 82.1W 65mph
1pm - 21.6N 82.7W 75mph
4pm - 22.1N 83.2W 80mph
Each update had it moving NW at 15mph, but it looks like it moved more than that between 10 and 1.
Just putting that in one place for any amateurs who want to extrapolate from there.

I'd be nervous leaving town for an extended period in case shite gets wrecked.

If I had to guess they will play the game with no fans if that is possible if they play at all.

How all the New Orleans people feeling now with the new landfall as a category 4? I'm a single dude on a 2nd floor apartment, I'm pretty confident could ride it out, but not 100%. I have to be back for work on Tuesday at hospital and worry about trying to make it back.

Does that area flood?
Not since I've been here and my research tells me it didn't during Katrina either.

For those who stayed in Laura, how many well built homes were destroyed by wind only?
It’s not just the 100 mph wind. It’s the 40 mph flying Volvo and the 50 mph flying oak tree that cause the problem.
Your house might be fine with high winds in theory. But it’s not built to handle projectiles from other damaged structures.

I am and unfortunately there are a lot of folks in the same situation as you. I get approached all the time by random people looking for help on their house. It's sad. Even worse is all the people getting shoddy, half-arse, repairs done on their places.
And finding enough help is hard. I am not taking on any more storm work but I may go to BR with a few roofing crews to tarp next week.

I’m just saying this morning people were saying a car 2/3 could be over us.
This morning the models and NHC forecast indicated that was possible.
That's changed. The storm is going to slow down just before landfall, so we'll get a ton of rain dumped on us + potentially sustained hurricane winds.. It's going to be rough for BR. Tree-heavy city IMO.

Depends on what area you live in. I’m planning on riding it out in Metairie but I wouldn’t want to be near downtown if shite hits the fan.

Can someone share the graphic of the strongest storms to hit BR? Was posted a while back but I'm having trouble finding it.
Thread moving so fast can’t find which page it was on but know what graphic you’re talking about. Showed the 2 strongest hurricanes in history in BR we’re Betsy and Gustav. Both had sustained winds in BR in the 50s with gusts in the 90s.
Means Ida could break the record for strongest hurricane ever to pass through BR with current wind projections of hurricane force winds and 100+ gusts in BR.

Surprised they aren't mandating shelter at the hospital for staff.

Can you ride it out at the hospital where you work?

I dont start service until Tuesday. So the people there now will be staying through Sunday and Monday.
I could I'm safe from flooding on the second floor. Only would would be car in the parking lot.

Margaret Orr just did a great job at explaining the potential for New Orleans. No hype, just what the potential is.
Kudos to her.

Did the 4 PM wobble a bit back to the West? Just trying to catch up and it looks a little more west than the 10 AM
