WV Loop

Watch the clouds on the west side start pushing out. That's outflow knocking the shearing upper low backwards. Outflow is also expanding out to the NE. Ominous signs of strengthening before it hits the gulf, and this means it's dropping shear over it earlier than expected too.

We have hotel rooms north Houston but have to cancel tonight for full refund.

Pro traveling tip: you can always cancel day of. All you have to do is adjust your reservation, move it a week out then you can cancel promptly without any fees.

All ensembles are run at a lower resolution than their operational counterparts.

This typically creates a greater variance than reality

for people who stay for the storm and then leave if power goes out the next day, is that usually a pretty successful endeavor?

I only went into LC the day after Laura hit because I saw the storm chasers drive close enough to my house to give me multiple options there. We were incredibly lucky. I still had to park a block away.

Some people couldn't get back in for 4-5 days b/c of debris.

Is the black track the one they think it will take?

Black track is the mean of all the ensembles.

Same.

If I wake up tomorrow to bad news (god I hope not), then I’m glad we made reservations in Houston a few days ago.

Black track is the median. I think they rule out any outliers when doing it, but it’s essentially the middle of all of the tracks

IDK if they are staring contraflow - haven't heard about it at all, but they need it given the bridge situation in Morgan City.

I've been told high-end 3 from someone in the know. I have not been through a major hurricane since I was a kid. Scared shitless.

If you don’t need it you move it a week to cancel so you don’t get dinged for a 48-24 hour policy

Yeah it's just a little unexpected shift given the operational run of the GFS going slightly east of 6z.

Someone in the know?

It’s a constantly evolving situation
