The National Weather Service issued an updated winter storm warning and winter weather advisory for the regions where Idaho, Montana and Wyoming border each other.

The new winter storm comes just in time for many in the region to start their preparations for the 250th birthday of the United States as millions prepare for the 4th of July. Those in the region are asked to consider delaying their travel across the backcountry this weekend and into the early portion of the week.

Persons should consider delaying travel across the backcountry and higher elevations. If travel is absolutely necessary, consider taking a winter storm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains, booster cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra clothing," the National Weather Service said. "Also take water, a first aid kit, and anything else that would help you survive in case you become stranded."

And people ask why I don’t want to live in some states…

I hate cold weather when it is winter. Three feet of snow in July is fricking ridiculous.

You would still have to go back country, unfortunately. Boyne doesn’t have impromptu summer dumps as part of their stellar capability.

Three feet would probably be enough to open a lift or two somewhere up there.

It’s wild we’re still figuring out it’s colder at high altitudes

After doing yard work yesterday and almost fainting from the heat, I'd welcome gigantic snow storm

Also slow my damn grass down.

I got snowed on on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon in August*

*The North Rim is a thousand feet higher than the South Rim and is a subalpine rather than desert environment. Harder to get to and much less crowded. Recommend.

I would actually love to do a week up there right now. Today in SW Florida is a little cooler than the last week or so.

I stopped at Murphy Gas Station and they had 1 gallon jugs of De-Icer on display by the counter in Baton Rouge. I'd venture to say not many sales right now in this part of the world.

Only lifties still around are old hats doing seasonal maintenance, I am pretty sure. I’ll ask my boy from Hattiesburg if anything will be open to the public, but I am fairly certain it will all have to be poached.

Back in 2019 I was in Wyoming for a June wedding. There ended up being a blizzard that I was not ready for. The little town I was in had a thrift store and I was able to buy a duster coat there . I looked pretty quick on the draw in that coat.

We drove from San Francisco to Tahoe a few years back, when we came over the top of the mountains it was snowing like crazy in the middle of July.

I drove the kids up to Mount Elbert from Aspen several years ago the week of the Fourth and caught a good snow storm. Fun times.
