Anyone think the Orlando airport will be closed at all tomorrow? Don't want to get stuck here

Thanks for the pictures. Based on the satellite loops, you are just on the edge of the central dense overcast (CDO). It won't be long now until things start going downhill fast.
The latest NHC forecast just came out, and they have Matthew crossing the Cuban coast at about 74.3W. However, the hurricane force wind field has expanded to about 55 miles to the NW of the center (dark brown circle in second map below). That would put GTMO right on the edge of the hurricane force winds.

They definitely have it picking up speed along the east coast now
Which is fine by me and my flights this weekend. Not sure the girl having the wedding is going to be too happy.

Looks like Haiti didn't weaken the storm at all.

For this latest advisory the pressure increased to 950 mb but the wind speeds remained the same. I suspect the wind speeds may drop for the next advisory. Up to 10 mph too

It may have. Minimum central pressure at 8am EDT was 934 MB. It's up to 950 now, 3 hours later

What is your/opinion on it going to CAT2 towards the Carolinas? It's still 74 to 110 correct? Why do they think the winds will die down after Fla? Drudge just had the siren up with this...Last cane, we had 85winds 30 miles inland. But it was weaker.

In my amateur opinion, I think it's a matter of timing. The forecast point is for 8AM and puts it just inland at 105 mph (Cat 2). Maybe it is expected to be 115-120 (Cat 3) just prior to landfall a few hours earlier. Of course, if it makes landfall farther south, chances are it will be stronger and landfall farther north would be a bit weaker due to possible shear but mostly due to less oceanic heat content.
Maybe rds or one of the other OT weather experts can chime in.

There is a monster iguana that lives back there, you better believe I was looking for him the whole time...
Winds are definitely picking up now, light rain too.

I have friends on Castaway Cay who were told they can't be evacuated due to limited resources by Disney. How safe might they be on that island?
Duuuuuuuude. Bad on Disney for leaving their employees stranded to face a hurricane. A multi-billion dollar company and they're too cheap to rent some boats and go get their people. It's got an airstrip they could easily charter a smaller jet from a regional airline and get their employees over to Florida for a couple days until it passes.

There's some good people, it's my first year going. No other TD posters though, which is probably for the best.

So looks like this thing will have moved on from Gainsville by game time on Saturday, but could the game still take place there? Or are we looking at a cancellation or a move to Sunday?

the monster iguana won't hurt you. They like fritos lol. the banana rats look like large armadillo rats, they are harmless but will eat wires in cars. when I lived there around the golf course and carib circle housing; was a huge boa snake.
