You know the area so you'll know what I am talkin about. I remember the last cane and in Rocky Point, Wallace, they got hammered with sustained 85 mile hour winds and people in beach houses and 7 miles from Atl Ocean got really nothing.

Well most of the models seem to have it as a 4 off the coast of Florida and a couple have it working it's way back to a 5.

I'm not sure who's picking this 2 number from for the television graphics but it seems a little misleading given the average from the chart I posted.

My local coastal Carolina news station saying 2 off Wilm coast. LINK LINK

Oh crap that looks bad.

I don't think they know what the warm waters will do to it coming out of the Bahamas.

Thanks NEZ

The winds are definitely starting to pick up now, still no big rain or anything. Just wonder if it is going to wrap back west now that the eye has cleared Haiti.

I don't know much about nc and sc but how far above sea level are those places?

This may give some indication about SC's coastline:

quote:

"More than 800 square miles of land lie less than four feet above the high tide line in South Carolina," Strauss and other researchers write in a report accompanying the map. "Some $24 billion in property value and 54,000 homes — mostly in Charleston and Beaufort counties — sit on this area."

Yeah. I'm looking at that also. The heading it takes once it clears land is going to be what determines your conditions there. If the purple to the SE of you in the image below just misses you to the east, it probably won't be too bad. But it will be close. The darker purple is strong TS to low end hurricane force at the surface. The lighter purple and pink is what you want to avoid you.

It'll jog a little either way going over Haiti and Cu a as it goes over some 5k+ foot mountains. Once it clears Cuba, we'll have a good idea o4f the final track, I'd think.
Looks like it'll just clip Cuba, missing GITMO to the east. Likely not too much lost intensification with that brush up.

I have friends on Castaway Cay who were told they can't be evacuated due to limited resources by Disney. How safe might they be on that island?

I don't think I'd want to be anywhere in the Bahamas right now.

They are going to be in for a hell of a ride. I wonder if there are any safe areas on the island.

What in the frick is this?

How can Disney even operate at a place like that, that's known to have hurricanes almost yearly it seems, without enough resources to evacuate?

It won't get that far north for a few days.

I thought Castaway Island was a day trip.

Speaking of Disney - that's where I am right now (Orlando). Was leaving on Thursday - moving that to tomorrow.

Anyone think the Orlando airport will be closed at all tomorrow? Don't want to get stuck here.

Climbed up the hill behind my house, this is current as of about 10 minutes ago looking toward the bay (west).

And this is the view looking east/southeast towards Matthew, hills in the way a bit

Employees, I hope? Going to get rough, but I am sure they have an adequate storm shelter, shame on disney for not getting them evacuated

A slight shift back to the East possibly?

ETA: At the least the westward shifts have stopped for now
